During Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct E3 event, Nintendo revealed two new characters for the upcoming brawler on the Wii U. During the overly extended game trailer gaming legend Mega Man was announced as a playable character; what?! Also “The Villager” from Animal Crossing  will be an addition to the roster upon release, and he means business.

Mega Man Classic

Nintendo really outdid themselves by catering to Mega Man fans by giving him a classic look and many of his old school special abilities. Everything from the jump animation to his awkward freeze-frame 2D pose while taking damage act as a tribute to the side scrolling classic. Some may think of it as cheesy or unoriginal to add pre-existing visuals to modern games, but being that I grew up playing these oldies I absolutely love the sincerity of implementing older content in a fashionable way. He looks amazing rendered in Wii U graphics for newer players to enjoy, and the old school animations are sure to strike a few chords in us older gamers.

“Does this look like the face of mercy?”

With the smile of a serial killer and the move set of a top tier, “The Villager” rears his cute little head worldwide as an addition to Super Smash Bros. “I have a particular set of skills..” Yea, I bet you do. Seemingly harmless, “The Villager” combines every day shenanigans with very powerful attacks to wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims in the Nintendo brawler. From the trailer I gathered he is an offensive character with a ton of high damage moves and also a couple of counters. You can look forward to trolling your friends with the joy of knowing your character will have an undiscriminating smile the entire ride.

Super Smash Bros. comes out next year on the Wii U and the 3DS.
