EA may have turned its back on the Wii U, but Ubisoft still have a great deal of confidence in the Nintendo console.
Speaking with GamesIndustry International, the French developer/publisher states that it takes time for any console to garner a large userbase, and that they are confident Nintendo will take steps to “ensure that the Wii U is successful in the market”.
Ubisoft is one of the more active developers for the console, with titles such as Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist making their way to the Wii U later this year. Ubisoft has a history of being staunch Nintendo supporters, and it’s no surprise they are continuing to support them this generation.
The Wii U’s slow start and the company’s recent surprising decisions are no doubt ominous to a powerhouse publisher like EA — though EA is not one to take a gamble. Ubisoft is less of a giant in the marketplace and is more open to taking gambles, especially on Nintendo hardware. It’s not a shock to see their continued support, but it is reassuring to have a competent and dedicated company in Nintendo’s corner.
