Vita was Actually Developed as A Companion Device for PS4

Vita was actually developed as companion device to PS4.

According to Sony Entertainment, almost all PS4 titles will be required to support Vita remote play, something that wasn’t in place for PS3.  This is all in an effort to boost sales for the Vita says Fergal Gara.  Gara states that he feels that the Vita is a great successor and better handheld than the PSP, but that they haven’t been able to market it as a companion device for the PS3 since not that many games support the remote play function.

The fact is it was developed for PS4, much more than PS3.  The number of things we could demonstrate and prove was limited – there’s been some good examples – but now we go into the PS4 era, that companion device will look far more clear. We’re optimistic it’s got a lot more legs left in it and the PS4 has given it a shot in the arm.

According to the Playstation hardware sales forecast for the current business year, Sony is expecting a drop in adoption of its portable systems.  With the news that PS4 games will require remote play support, it seems that Sony may have launched the Vita a couple of years early, but perhaps it was just to give others a leg up by being early adopters.  If Vita sales happen to go above predictions, then perhaps it will be true that they launched just a bit too early.
