The end of Mythic Entertainment’s licensing deal with Games Workshop has resulted in the company’s MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, shutting down by December 18, 2013.
The development team posted an announcement on their official website regarding the shutdown in this article. The announcement states that Mythic will no longer sell three-month game time codes, or allow players to automatically renew their accounts starting from September 18, 2013.
In a letter to the community, producer Carrie Gouskos reflects on her experience with Warhammer Online, which included her first introduction to the game during E3 2006 and how she ended up as a designer on Warhammer Online three months after that. She also remarked that there were some “beautiful ideas” that never came to fruition.
She went on to credit the development team for doing everything and putting in the long hours to make Warhammer Online possible. A special mention was reserved for the players who as a community, made the game possible.
Finally she thanked Games Workshop for making a world-class IP in which they were lucky enough to have spent a decade in the universe, with half of it live.
