Steam has released its hardware and software survey for November, and some of the information may surprise you.
Perhaps the most surprising bit of trivia to be found in the the Steam numbers list is the dominance of Windows 8 over Mac OS. 4.25% of Steam users are running Windows 8 64 bit (.44% are using the 32 bit version). 3.26% of Steam users are using some sort of Mac OS.
8 is just behind Vista 64 bit (4.77% of users are on Vista, myself included). Both versions of Windows 7 and XP 32 bit are still the most popular operating system among Steam users.
If you’re not really computer-savvy, the rest of the stats provided in the survey won’t interest you.
DirextX 11 compatible video cards are the most popular, with NVidia cards dominating ATI like usual. Dual core processors are still the most common, though 4 cores are right behind them.
Both Mac and PC users usually have 4 gigs of RAM, though PC users in general have more RAM in their rig.
