Your Choices Will Impact Other Characters in Ghost of Tsushima

Choice in Ghost of Tsushima is starting to sound a lot like Infamous.

After hiding in the shadows for what seemed like an eternity, Ghost of Tsushima finally emerged with a launch date earlier this year. Since then, news about the game has been sparse. However, a preview from the Official PlayStation Magazine sheds new light on the action-adventure title.

Aside from confirming that Ghost of Tsushima will, like many Souls-like games before it, forego a waypoint system, the preview also tells us a little more about the game’s choices.

Though we don’t know a whole lot, we do know that certain choices in combat will have an effect on how other characters view the game’s protagonist, Jin Sakai. According to the preview (via IGN), an example is the use of particular ninja skills, of which Sakai’s uncle does not approve.

The extent of the impact these choices have is not completely clear, but it is worth noting that Sucker Punch is the studio behind the Infamous series, which heavily featured choice in an open-world setting. In Infamous, players are governed by a quasi-morality system that leads them down one of two specific paths and impacts other characters.

Back in 2017, Creative Director Nate Fox told US Gamer that the development team wanted to give “power to the player.” Art Director Jason Connell followed that by saying player choice is central to that idea. The interview, however, did not touch on player choice in regards to NPCs or other characters.

Ghost of Tsushima is set to launch on the PlayStation 4 on June 26. If you’ve yet to pre-order it, head over to our pre-order guide for more info. Stay tuned to GameSkinny as we learn more about the upcoming PS4 exclusive.
