Nearly four months after the game’s wildly successful launch, we’ve now received DLC news for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, it’s bittersweet. Eiji Aonuma, a producer for the game, has confirmed that the latest installment to the franchise won’t receive an expansion.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Won’t Receive DLC
Even before the release of Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda fans have speculated whether we might receive downloadable content somewhere down the line. However, the community’s hopes have since been slashed by Eiji Aonuma. In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, the producer confirmed that TotK will not receive DLC after all.
“We have no plans to release additional content this time, but that is because we feel like we have done all we can to create play in that world.”

Aonuma went on to say the development team for Tears of the Kingdom intended to expand the world of Hyrule in the sequel to the 2017 release, Breath of the Wild. This was done as a means to provide players with all-new ways to explore the Kingdom. It goes without saying this was masterfully accomplished with the introduction of exciting new features, like sky-diving alongside Tulin.

As it stands, Tears of the Kingdom is a complete game in its own right. Prior to its release, many players had concerns that the 2023 entry might reiterate the DLC for Breath of the Wild. That said, Aonuma is confident that Hyrule has now been explored in its entirety — at least, until the next installment.
We may not receive DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, but there is a silver lining. In the same interview, Aonuma stated we may be able to revisit the game’s world. He said, “whether it is a sequel or new work.” There’s surely much more in store for the Zelda franchise. We’re excited to see what future entries will bring to the table. For now, we may have received all the Tears of the Kingdom content the development team has to offer.
