Shenmue 3 is getting its second bit of DLC on February 18. The Story Quest Pack is unsurprisingly focused on extending the narrative of the adventure game. It adds a handful of quests and reintroduces Zhang Shuqin, who Ryo first meets at the Dou Jiang Diner in Shenmue 2.
Players must have reached Niaowu “or have save data on which the game has been cleared to play,” according to a press release about the upcoming DLC. It is not entirely clear what the DLC will include or how long it will be, though we know that “… Ryo becomes embroiled in a new escapade where nothing is as it seems…”
The Story Quest Pack willbe available on the PlayStation Store and the Epic Games Store for $5.99. Those who purchased the Shenmue 3 Complete DLC Collection will automatically receive the update.
Shenmue 3‘s first DLC released in January. It was the first time that players could control anyone besides Ryo. Battle Rally allows players to control Ryo, Wuying Ren, Wei Zhen, and Chobu Chan in races through Bailu village … where you beat up bad guys on the way to the finish line. There are also collectibles to find.
In November 2019, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki said that there would be at least three DLC releases for the game. Currently, the third content update is said to feature casinos and gambling. It’s not clear if this final DLC will be focused on Shenmue’s famous mini-games or if it will be some mixture of Battle Rally and The Story Quest Pack.
We reviewed Shenmue 3 when it released on the PS4 and PC last November. Scoring it an 8/10, we said that “for better or worse, Shenmue 3 is a blast from the past. It’s a beautiful world marred only by its insistence to stay the same.”
