Finding the right Father’s Day gifts for your gamer husband, boyfriend, Dad, or son doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, I’d argue that buying things for a gamer is easier than almost any other hobbyist!
But then again, I’m one of those guys, so I know what I want.
To help give you a peek into a gamer Dad’s head, here are a few ideas to make sure he has a great Father’s Day.
Father’s Day Gift Idea #1: Manly New Video Game
This summer has a lot of great games coming out. To stick on the manly side, you can get him Overwatch, Warhammer: Total War or Dead Island: Definitive Edition.
Overwatch is a shooter, where the player chooses from 21 different characters and forms a team with 5 other people. This team of 6 goes against another team of players, and it’s a good time of shooting each other in the face and smashing each other with hammers and swords.
If your favorite gamer likes strategy games, Warhammer: Total War is basically a war game. It takes place in a fantasy setting with orcs, dwarves, dragons, magic–that kinda stuff.
And Dead Island: Definitive Edition is for the guy who can’t get enough zombies in his life. If he likes shows like The Walking Dead or movies like World War Z, this may be a good choice for him.
Father’s Day Gift Idea #2: Gaming Accessories
Most gamers I know could always use a new accessory of some kind. For example, I wouldn’t mind a new set of headphones! (hint hint, wifey.)
A good example is the Playstation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset. Many players have wired headsets because they’re less expensive, but a nice, wireless headset is always appreciated.
Is he tired of sitting on the couch or floor all the time? Maybe a gaming chair is a good option. Just make sure you get one that’s high enough off the ground for adults to be comfortable. A good option is an X-Rocker gaming chair. Since they have a pedestal and don’t sit right on the ground, adults can sit in them without killing their knees.
There are lots of other gaming accessories out there too. Does he love racing games? Get him a new racing wheel. Is he always complaining about his controller battery dying? Get him another controller to serve as a backup, or a different charger…or both!
Father’s Day Gift Idea #3: A New Monitor or TV
Even though the idea of playing games on massive TVs sounds cool, it’s not the best choice for many games. For example, competitive Call of Duty players know that a small screen tends to be better. It lets your eyes process everything on the screen easier, plus the refresh rate is lower.
Refresh rate is nerd speak for how fast the monitor processes the image.
If you’re leaning towards a smaller screen, this BenQ monitor is a good choice.
That said, if your beloved gamer already has a small monitor and wants a much bigger one to play an RPG like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that may be the best option for him. Just keep in mind that you don’t need to shell out extra money for a 4K TV right now. Unless he’s playing on a high-end gaming computer, he won’t be able to see a difference between a 4K TV and one with lower resolution.
Father’s Day Gift Idea #4: A Full Day of Gaming!
This is my personal favorite option. Dads have lots of responsibility, and unfortunately responsibilities don’t magically disappear on the weekends. This makes finding time to play video games difficult sometimes.
The good news is this gives you a perfect, free gift opportunity. Simply allowing him to forego any responsibilities for a day to enjoy his favorite pastime will be much appreciated!
You could even make the gaming day better by offering to bring him whatever drinks/snacks he wants. Obviously this isn’t an excuse for him to boss you around, but every gamer appreciates the chance to get food/drinks brought to him without having to waste those crucial minutes to get them himself.
There you have it–some of the best Father’s Day gift ideas for gamers. Thanks to everyone who helps make the day special for us Dads!
