The time has come. The final video presentation for the beloved game Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be held the 15th of December.
The question many of us have had ever since Cloud was announced as a DLC character back in November is: what are the results of the character ballot the players participated in? Cloud could very well be the winning character, but I believe that they did not mention the ballot on purpose. The developer knows that the players are waiting for the results that would be revealed Tuesday. Perhaps Cloud is indeed the ballot winner and Nintendo just enjoys playing with our emotions.
The Twitter post announcing the presentation (Nintendo UK) mentioned that Mr. Sakurai will give details about Cloud and more. Now it is very likely that Mr. Sakurai will be announcing future characters, especially if Cloud is not the winner of the Smash ballot. Here is a non-exhaustive list of possible upcoming DLC characters:
- Inkling : Nintendo would be using the main character of its latest franchise that has managed to please many, many players.
- Wolf: Many players have been wanting Wolf to come back from the dead. For some reason, I think this is very unlikely, unless Nintendo wants to use this opportunity to advertise the upcoming Star Fox Zero game.
- Snake: Putting Kojima’s character Snake back into the game would probably create some unnecessary friction between Nintendo and Konami. For more on this, please read this article.
- Banjo and Kazooie: Having those two on screen again would be great. Even Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox would love it. Have a look at his tweet from April:
@PedroDarkinson I think it would be cool if Banjo was in the next SSB DLC. We’ve worked with Nintendo on Rare IP before, no issues.

The presentation is very likely to include new stages. If an Inkling character is announced, then it would make sense for a Splatoon stage to show up. Nintendo hit the jackpot with Splatoon, and it would be a shame to miss the opportunity to push the marketing for the game a bit more with an appearance in Super Smash Bros.
There are a lot of rumors circulating the Internet at the moment with wild speculations about the presentation. As crazy as some can be, I don’t see why any character wouldn’t have a chance to make it into the game, since freaking Cloud Strife made it in. It could be regarded as a publicity stunt, with the announcement of Final Fantasy VII remake, but the players are overjoyed nonetheless.
In any case, all will be revealed soon.
