A Fresh Start For Skyrim

How to have a better experience replaying Skyrim: Elder Scrolls V!?
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Ever wanted to replay The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim without redoing all the old and boring main quests? I know, it is a pain to go through the same linear lore every time you restart the game. For this, I have selected a number of mods that will improve your gaming experience and give you a better start.

Sick of starting back in Helgen?

Every Skyrim veteran knows that this is the most excruciating beginning in any game! Long cut scene, boring dragon killing everyone and, finally, your lame-ish escape to freedom. All of this can be avoided with one simple mod:

Alternate Start – Live Another Life

As the name sais, your beginning will be spice up by placing your character in a chosen map location, with an alternative life. All this options are very varied, so choose carefully as some beginnings are harder than others.

How to skip the Lore?

This is the tricky part, but not impossible to accomplish. So far, there are two ways:

You are not the Dragonborn

A mod that will offer you the opportunity to avoid the lore and be a simple adventurer. You will not be able to use shouts and dragons will not give their soul to you, upon death.

Or, you could manually end all the main quests by console commands (which can be accessed by pressing the “~” key). Here are the codes:

  • Unbound Quest:
  • SetStageMQ101 900
  • Before the Storm Quest:
  • SetStageMQ102 160
  • Bleak Falls BarrowQuest:
  • SetStageMQ103 190
  • Dragon Rising:
  • SetStageMQ104 160
  • The Way of the Voice Quest:
  • SetStageMQ105 160
  • The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller Quest:
  • SetStageMQ105Ustengrav 60
  • A Blade in the Dark Quest:
  • SetStageMQ106 200
  • Diplomatic Immunity Quest:
  • SetStageMQ201 255
  • A Cornered Rat Quest:
  • SetStageMQ202 180
  • Alduin’s Wall Quest:
  • SetStageMQ203 280
  • The Throat of the World Quest:
  • SetStageMQ204 200
  • Elder Knowledge Quest:
  • SetStageMQ205 100
  • To obtain the Elder Scroll:
  • Player.AddItem 2d513 1
  • Alduin’s Bane Quest:
  • SetStageMQ206 220
  • The Fallen Quest:
  • SetStageMQ301 220
  • The World-Eater’s Eyrie Quest:
  • SetStageMQ303 300
  • Sovngarde Quest:
  • SetStageMQ304 200
  • Dragonslayer Quest:
  • SetStageMQ305 200

It’s indicated to “SetStage” from all these quests in the presented order so you avoid any later bugs. Always make “Super-Duper” sure you SAVE, before you make any changes to the game! Also, I did not include the Civil War, as that quest has to be done manually to avoid any lore script conflicts!

How to avoid triggering Side Quests?

Don’t you just hate it when your try to talk to an NPC and all of a sudden he gives you a side quest, you didn’t even want in the first place? To avoid them, you can use a very smart mod named:

The Choice is Yours

Now you can relax and talk, all you want, with anyone you like!

Keeping you busy with new Content

Who wouldn’t like a new adventure in the world of Skyrim? For this I have selected four Quest Mods that will keep you busy for at least a week, of casual playing.

In the original lore, Helgen gets obliterated and becomes a ghost town with no soul. We can change this by rebuilding Helgen with:

Helgen Reborn

Why not add some mystery to Riverwood as well? Go and explore the depths of a very creepy dungeon in:

Into the Depths

Maybe you like to be a true adventurer and explore a true Nordic ruin. For this I recommend:

CONAN Hyborian Age

Last, but not least, we have a brand new world called:

Falskaar

All the mentioned mods don’t require a particular character lever, to be started. However, it’s recommended that you get at least level 10, before you proceed, so you can have a better gaming experience.

Other Mods I Recommend

If you are tired of the in-game armors, you can try your luck with:

If you hate being a normal vampire, improve your life with:

Want to be an extreme melee fighter? Then use:

Need more spells?

House mods:

Visual and Audio mods:

Better performence mods:

Last Notes

I am sure you guys know other alternative mods, regarding the ones I have mentioned, but this collection is meant to work well on any type of PC, trying to keep the game lore-firenfly and without the loss of performance. Have fun in Skyrim and leave a comment bellow with other suggestions that might improve the game for the rest of the Dragonborns.
