Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive, the new heir to the Star Wars property, have just signed on a multi-year exclusive licensing agreement with EA. The official statement reads “…for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games aimed at the core gaming audience and spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets”.
Well known companies like DICE (Battlefield developers), Visceral (Dead Space devs), and BioWare (Mass Effect, SWTOR devs) will be collaborating to bring us new Star Wars titles, most likely starting the development process now to release alongside the new movies slated for 2015.
Starwars.com also tells us that EA will develop for the core Star Wars audience, while Disney Interactive will bring us the casual Jar-Jar Binks Disney princess type of games. Their definition of “core audience” has not been very concrete here, but based on the developer team picks made we can safely assume that the audience includes the older generations.
Fingers crossed for Battlefront 3! Do you think that EA will do a better job than LucasArts?
