Turtle Rock, the makers of Left 4 Dead, are back making zombie shooter games. The company today announced its new project, a co-op zombie game titled Back 4 Blood.
The new game is an original title designed from the ground up, and it is being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Turtle Rock has moved on from its partnership with 2K Games.
Back 4 Blood will expand on Turtle Rock’s zombie heritage, taking what makes the Left 4 Dead series so successful while adding new features and improving technology.
The Turtle Rock team seems excited to return to the genre that put it on the map. In fact, Chris Ashton, company co-founder and design director, issued a statement, noting what an “awesome opportunity” the new project is.
He added how happy the team was to return to the zombie shooter genre, now with 10 years of experience under their belts and plenty of new zombie ideas to go along with it.
Phil Robb, who also founded Turtle Rock with Ashton, added to Ashton’s statement, saying the company has no plans to rest “on any past laurels.”
Our goal is to take all we’ve learned and push forward. We know that’s a tall order. We’re growing the team considerably because we’re stepping up to the biggest challenge in this studio’s history. We know this title has to stand out and we fully intend to make that happen.
As of this writing, Turtle Rock hasn’t provided any further information on the game, including images, video, or a release date.
Back4Blood.com does exist, but the link currently leads to the Back 4 Blood press release on the main Turtle Rock site.
That said, we likely won’t have to wait too long to at least get a glimpse of something from the game, even if it’s just a logo.
Left 4 Dead is one of the most popular zombie game franchises of all time. Although the last game in the series, Left 4 Dead 2, released more than nine years ago, both it and the original have continued to receive support over that time, even receiving a campaign add on back in 2016.
Last year, enhanced versions of both games were added to the Xbox One X library.
