According to an official statement from Nintendo, the Switch has sold more than 4.8 million units in its first 10 months on the market. Nintendo states, “That’s the highest total for the first 10 months of any home video game system in U.S. history, surpassing Nintendo’s own Wii system, which was the previous record holder with more than four million units sold during the same timeframe.”

The console has clearly struck a chord with many people, and found itself desirable among a widespread audience, likely due to its status as both a home console as well as a powerful portable gaming system. The software also worked hand-in-hand with the hardware, as over the course of 2017 in particular, Nintendo released a number of major titles for the Switch that were both critically and financially successful.

Super Mario Odyssey was the best-selling video game on Amazon in 2017, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild following behind in second and third place respectively. It seems that in its first year on the market, the Nintendo Switch has had a rather promising start, and we’ll be interested to see if it can keep up the momentum through 2018.

I'm just your average basement-dwelling eclectic and eccentric video gamer who does his best to make a point, share experiences, and talk to people without swallowing his own tongue. I'm mostly into Platformers and RPG's, but I'll try pretty much anything once, and I'm also trying to find something different and interesting to play, and then share with as many people as I can. I can also beat the entire first world in Super Meat Boy while wearing oven mitts.
