When it comes to headphones, I’m a fan of utilitarian usage before audiophile quality. In other words, I’d much rather get a set of earbuds than shell out a few hundred dollars for a set of headphones that sound amazing, but doesn’t let me leave my living room.
My recent immersion into the gaming world has me rethinking my gaming setup. I asked around for some headphone suggestions and my brother generously let me borrow his. He currently has the Logitech G930 Wireless Gaming Headset.
The Pros
The build quality to these headphones are fantastic. There is nothing flimsy about the headphones. The cups fit nicely over my ears. I’ve got a smaller head size, so I was worried about the fit. But the leather-like ear cups and cushion on the headband made it a perfect fit. I was also a little concerned that when I wore my glasses, my ears would start hurting. I’m happy to say that after a few hours of wear it wasn’t a concern.
A big part of my experience was enjoying the wireless capabilities of the headphones. It was nice to walk downstairs and get a cup of water while still listening to my music playlist. I didn’t experience any interference, but there were a few range issues when I walked into certain rooms.
There are three programmable buttons on the left ear cup along with an easy to adjust volume wheel. The noise canceling microphone works well when talking over Skype. The microphone also mutes itself when the mic boom is rotated vertically.
For the few days I was fortunate enough to borrow the G930s, I experienced a pretty long battery life. The Logitech webiste boasts play up to 10 hours on one charge.
The Cons
There are a few known firmware issues with the G930. A few minutes to reinstall the driver software should take care of the problem.
It isn’t the cheapest gaming headphone out there, retailing at around $160 on the Logitech website. These can easily be found at other retailers just under $100.
For all the gaming headphones I’ve reviewed, the Logitech G930 Wireless Gaming Headset has been the one that set the bar.
