Something odd has happened to you.
You awake in a house you are not familiar with and find the dead body of a man. Not understanding who this dead man is, what is happening or why you are there, you try to leave. Quickly memories as you try to find a way out and slowly the past comes back to the character for him to find his own conclusion to the events that have taken place.
That is pretty much all the set up because how the rest of the game plays out is up to you. If you want a game that provides a heavy emphasis on player choice, this is the 2D pixel game you should be playing.
The reason I say that is because based on your interactions with the environments you can have a VERY different feeling story the second time through. I will tell you now, you will want to play this through a second time. You choose the story your character tells based on what you choose to interact with and HOW you interact with it. For example: On the right you will see a text box asking if I want to interact with something. I said “Yes” and subsequently got the following box making me think there are now unforeseen consequences to my actions.
Confused? I would not really blame you. Let me put it in context:
Ever see the movie Memento? Well, think if someone made a game about that. The game has you looking at a series of events that unravel a story in reverse. You see the ending before the beginning and will not understand the ending until you get closer to how it all started.
The game play itself is very minimalistic in controls. You move left and right and can look up and down and interaction is one button. This is not a bad thing because that is all you really need and nothing more. There is no combat or anything intense because it is a story playing out in front of you in a very interesting way.
There are many questions to this game and there are really no spoilers seeing as the game has no true ending that tells you what actually happened. All you have to go on is what you see and do in your play through. Simply look at how the interaction with this gun from earlier on (Top) is reflected in the afterthoughts when you escaping through the sewers… Leaves you feeling kind of uneasy.
If the idea of a game in the vain on Memento interests you, pick this up. For $3 on Steam, you can’t really go wrong. I would recommend this to almost anyone out there because it could even run on a 10 year old laptop.
