I love Kickstarter. I have backed books, games, neat gadgets, and today an Adventurezator!
Adventurezator – When Pigs Fly is a cartoony emergent adventure game that allows users to create their own levels and worlds in their adventure games.
What I find extremely cool is what they call emergent technology, which means that the objects know how they should behave by themselves. For example, Goblins hate people and will always attack them when they come nearby. Add water and food to Mogwai and leave them overnight and they become the nasty Gremlins we all love and multiply quickly. How cool is that?
You can create a story, like a video or cartoon, very easily. The example video on the site shows them bringing in a background, adding objects, adding the bear to the right, adding him again as a smaller version closer to the house, and then selecting a path for him to walk and change from one size to the other. Think title sequences, sections between levels, or just for fun. I know an 8 year-old who will enjoy making cartoons using this.
Creating a game is also easy, and yet very powerful. The objects are build in. You set an objective for the level. You can hide objects inside of other objects — in a container. You can lock doors, gates, and such. And once you have locked something, it would be nice to give them a lockpick for your user to find and use.
Here you can see a house being built and the furnishings added. The entire house took just a few minutes. First the walls were drawn in, then doors and windows. Finally, beds, rugs, tables, and all the other furniture was added to the house. You can see how it would be easy to add a locked door or a Goblin in the house.
Once the house was built the background needed to be added. As you can see, trees, rocks, people, were all added quickly and easily.
It is not a high graphic quality game, but it is a cool game creator and should be fun when it comes out. I expect to be both a player of this game and a creator of many games. I totally backed this project so that I can be in on the beta and check it out as early as possible. Below is the example video of how the game will work.
