I played the open beta for Overwatch and loved it! Granted, I’m a fan of shooters anyways, but it’s head and shoulders better than some other shooters that have come out lately.
*cue Battleborn vs. Overwatch argument*
If you’re like most players, a lot of your rounds will look something like this:
- Get loaded onto a team with a few randos.
- Wonder why everyone is picking offensive characters even though you’re on defense.
- Go for the objective while your team treats it like Team Deathmatch.
- Wonder why your teammates switch characters every single death.
- Curse at the screen as the enemy team all works together and smashes you.
- End the game with a Torbjörn’s turret getting the Play of the Game while he was waiting to respawn.
Rinse and repeat.
But it doesn’t have to go like that. Here are a few ways to make the game more fun when you start getting frustrated.
Hunt for Some Overwatch Easter Eggs
Blizzard put tons of these little treats into the game! From movie quotes to references for other games like Heroes of the Storm, there are a lot of goodies to find.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to find them when you’re getting shot in the face by an enemy. Instead, the best way to search for them is to either do it before the match starts or maybe try it against A.I.
If you don’t want to find them all by yourself, here’s a slideshow highlighting some of the Overwatch Easter eggs already discovered.
Have Everyone Be the Same Character
Have you ever come across six Bastions all in turret mode? Or had the fun of six Reapers teleporting around you?
Me neither… sounds kinda scary, though.
Even though you probably won’t win playing like this, it can still be a lot of fun. I’d get a lot of laughs from watching six Winstons leap around the map and shield each other, even if he does do the damage of a chipmunk.
How Many Buildings Can You Clear?
Some characters in Overwatch are rocking some serious vertical mobility. Pharah and Junkrat can both use explosives to get a vertical boost (similar to a Team Fortress Soldier’s rocket jump.)
While this is normally used for getting a height advantage over your enemy, why not make a game out of it? You can make a contest to see who can clear the most buildings with a single jump.
You can also experiment with jumping from one ledge to another, hopping over a big body of water — anything is fair game!
You can also do this with other characters like Winston to an extent, but it’d have to be more of a horizontal jumping contest because for some reason he just doesn’t have ups.
Bait the Enemy into a Turret Nest
Two of my favorite characters in Overwatch are Torbjörn and Symmetra. Their turrets are good fun, and I’ve gotten tons of kills with them.
Nothing beats luring an enemy into a turret nest! Hiding your turrets just inside a doorway or around a corner and baiting your enemy to peak their head around is something that always brings a chuckle.
Have you tried any of these so far? How did it go? Let me know in the comments!
