WoW Season of Discovery: All Phase 4 Paladin Runes and How to Get Them

The runes available for Paladins are Righteous Vengeance, Shield of Righteousness, and Shock and Awe. Of these three, Shock and Awe is probably the trickiest to pick up since your squire can get stuck at too low of a level to let you progress. Luckily, there’s a way to fix that issue.

How to Get the Righteous Vengeance Rune

Getting this rune starts in Western Plaguelands at (45, 46) with the Fallen Knight. Then, speak with Squire Cuthbert who’s in the back corner of the nearby barn and pick up “In a Bind.” Cuthbert’s sword is at (45, 54), where you loot it to pick it up and return to Cuthbert. This leads to “Clearing the Path,” which has you kill a number of enemies in the area.

Once you turn in that quest, Cuthbert gives you the quest “The Fallen Knight.” Here, you take Cuthbert to the Fallen Knight that started this chain. Make sure you interact with the body and select to burn it in order to get the Righteous Vengeance Rune. Then, take Cuthbert’s next quest to lead right into getting the Shock and Awe Rune.

How to Get the Shock and Awe Rune

Heading right into Shock and Awe from picking up the quest from Cuthbert in Western Plaguelands (45, 46) after grabbing the Righteous Vengeance Rune. “Dalton’s Quest” gives you a horn to summon Cuthbert as your squire, which is at the center of getting this rune. Essentially, this is a set of quests that has you level Cuthbert to Level 60. The problem is that he tends to get stuck at Level 58. In this case, cast Flash of Light on him until he’s Level 60.

Once Cuthbert is Level 60, you get the quest “A Time to Kill” from him. For this, go to Eastern Plaguelands (87, 40) and find Arkonos the Cursed. Finding him leads to Cuthbert giving you “Close Enough to Touch.” For this, kill nearby Shadowmages and Dread Weavers until one drops a Scourge Shadow Scalpel. This finally leads to killing Arkonos, which completes the quest and rewards you with the rune.

How to Get the Shield of Righteousness Rune

This rune starts in Eastern Plaguelands (35, 81), where you kill the Slack-Jawed Ghoul to free Orthas. The ghoul has a large patrol area, so it might take a bit to find it. Orthas then gives you the quest “Oi!” where you need to pick up his hammer from the second floor of a house at (61, 70).

Summon Orthas with Orthas’ Favorite Gold Tooth to complete “Oi!” and pick up “Oh No Ye Don’t!” It turns out his armor was eaten by an abomination, so kill Abominations or Stitched Horrors and loot their bodies until you find it. Next, he has you go into Stratholme’s Undead Side to kill Maleki the Pallid for a Necrotic Runestone.

Finally, go to Eastern Plaguelands (28, 85) to find Orthas’ body. Summon him for the quest “Send Me On Me Way!” Turn in this quest at the Mysterious Chest, and pick up “A Thane’s Gratitude” for the rune.

And that covers all Phase 4 Paladin runes and how to get them in WoW Season of Discovery. Luckily for Paladins, their runes are obtained in a way where one leads into the next. From here, check out our WoW guide hub for more content regarding both retail and classic versions of the game.
