All Zack Timeline Splitting Options in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Zack deciding to save somebody changes the timeline, and here's what each decision results in!

Zack doesn’t play a big role in the original Final Fantasy 7. Mostly because he’s dead by that point, having sacrificed himself for Cloud. But now there’s a new timeline where he survives, and it keeps causing timeline splits. So, here’s all Zack timeline splitting options in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: The Results of Each Zack Timeline Split

One burden Zack picks up is how easy it is to create new timelines with simple decisions. And to figure out when you’re in a new timeline, you just need to pay attention to Stamp’s design. Since this dog mascot has a different look in each timeline, it’s the easiest way to determine if a split happened.

During Zack’s section of the game, who he saves splits into a new timeline. This makes a total of three timeline-splitting options from his actions of saving Biggs, Aerith, or Cloud. However, we don’t get to take one option as a player here. We get to see the results of each three options that Zack can make as he keeps creating new timelines.

Timeline Split #1: Zack Saves Biggs

Saving Biggs results in Biggs being shot by Shinra, and Zack finds himself facing the same situation he was in when he escaped the experimentation. However, he decides to throw himself into the reactor instead of being shot down, which shifts him to another timeline.

Timeline Split #2: Zack Cures Cloud

When he goes to find Hojo to cure Cloud, he ends up being gunned down again by Shinra. But the scene after shows that he might’ve been able to get Cloud’s cure at least. However, Zack is absent as Aerith and Cloud walk hand-in-hand through the streets. And black feathers fall from the sky, signifying that Sephiroth might kill Aerith in that timeline as well.

Timeline Split #3: Zack Stays to Protect Aerith

Zack’s final choice is to stay with Aerith after she wakes up to save her from Sephiroth. But when Sephiroth arrives at the church, Zack isn’t able to stop him from reaching Aerith. Instead, summoned Whispers pin down Zack and send him to a white space that seems to exist between timelines. As such, he’s able to join Cloud in the original timeline in his fight against Sephiroth. Temporarily, of course.

So, while Zack has a series of timeline-splitting options in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, he also has to deal with Whispers working against him in each new timeline to adjust to the “correct” events. However, Zack is determined to take fate into his own hands and merge the timelines again so that he can save both Cloud and Aerith.
