Assassin’s Creed Valhalla offers yet another massive, diverse, and engrossing open world for fans of the series, RPGs, or both. But to see it all, you’ll want to know how to survive the harsh conditions and stay well behind enemy lines. That’s where knowing how to heal and upgrade rations comes in very handy.
There’s a lot to learn, and how to heal in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one of them. How to do so isn’t immediately clear, and if you find yourself low on vitality and need a boost, this guide will walk you through how to do that, ensuring the axes being swung are more often Eivor’s and the people bleeding out are the bad guys.
Here’s how to heal in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, plus how to upgrade your rations to store more healing items.
How to Heal in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
To heal in Eivor’s vast Viking landscape, you’ll want to find food resources around the open world. Food sources come in several varieties, both in the wild and within manmade structures.
In the early Norwegian regions of the game, you’ll often find Cloudberries in bushes that can be used to heal you, while later, in England, you’ll find similar fruits around the open world, like Golden Raspberries or even cooking pots of food inside settlers’ homes.
In each case, a single piece of food, considered Rations, will return some amount of your health automatically when picked up, assuming you’re not at full health.
Once you hit full health, any extra food you try to pick up goes into your Rations pouch and can be used to heal later by clicking Right on the D-Pad. But at the start of the game, you only have enough space for one additional healing item in your Rations, so there’s still more to learn.
How to Upgrade Rations in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Rations are located in Eivor’s Inventory menu along with gear, weapons, and other resources. You can upgrade the Rations pouch up to six times, and each upgrade allows for one additional Ration to be stored away for when you need to heal.
To upgrade your Rations pouch further, you’ll want to look out for four particular resources in the open world. Here’s what they are and where you may find them.
- Leather: a common material found on animals.
- Iron Ore: a common material found inside obsidian stone.
- Fabric: A rare item sometimes found in chests.
- Titanium: A rare item found across the open world.
You won’t need fabric for the first few upgrades, but eventually, its rarity will demand you really scour areas for chests if you’re looking to upgrade your rations to its full capacity.
Thankfully, chests are found pretty much everywhere in Valhalla, with every minor encampment likely to offer at least one. Anything bigger will pile on the number of chests scattered around nearby.
Titanium, meanwhile, can be found in nature, so be sure to use the Right Stick Raven’s Eye feature to get a better glimpse of all possible interact objects in an area, some of them may be titanium.
Of course, Ubisoft is also happy to sell you Materials Packs of various quantities from the in-game store, but this is merely a shortcut. The world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has more than enough of what you need to fully equip Eivor with the Rations she needs to heal and survive her harsh road ahead.
