Discover where Philomeen went off to in Baldur's Gate 3.

Philomeen has managed to escape the clutches of the Duergar slavers and the Cult of the Absolute. That said, you still need her help for the Find Explosives quest or the Runepowder Vial so where is Philomeen in BG3? Here’s how to find Philomeen’s hiding spot in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where to Find Philomeen in BG3

Philomeen’s hiding spot in Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the Abandoned Refuge area of Grymforge (X:-536; Y:464). I must point out that you cannot track this location solely via coordinates since it won’t initially appear on your map. That’s because there’s a hidden pathway you must unlock first to reach the Abandoned Refuge past the Duergar who are disposing of Gnome corpses by the Grymforge dock.

How to Reach the Abandoned Refuge in BG3

To reach the Abandoned Refuge, go to the aforementioned docks in Grymforge just across from the waypoint. There, you’ll see the Duergar slavers we mentioned next to a dozen Gnome corpses (X:-609; Y:409). You can persuade them to back off to avoid hostilities, and this will let you enter the room right next to them.

Inside, there’s a button you can press after passing a hidden skill check. I saved before entering the room in case all my party members failed to notice it. This moves the wall, revealing a hidden passageway. Continue up the steps while eliminating the slimes in this area. I used Stealth to sneak past them which doesn’t trigger their ambush from above. If your party isn’t that Stealthy, note that they will drop from the ceiling.

Once you reach the top, you’ll be at the Abandoned Refuge. You’ll also see Philomeen at the back of the room. I advise you to keep a backup save for this part as she can potentially be hostile if you fail a check.

How to Get the Runepowder Vial From Philomeen in BG3

Philomeen is agitated and nervous, and rightfully so. She knows that the Duergar and Absolute Cultists are after her. Choose dialogue options to make her calm down. In my case, I picked: [Persuasion] “Are you sure about this? Once you’re dead, it’s over.”

After a bit of back and forth, Philomeen will agree with your sentiments. She’ll then leave the Runepowder Vial item. Conversely, if you keep acting in a hostile manner, then she might just blow herself up, which will also cause damage to your team. Therefore, I found that a Persuasion-based approach offers the best outcome.

To sum up, if you’re wondering where is Philomeen in BG3, she’s in the Abandoned Refuge past the Duergar slavers and Gnome corpses in Grymforge. That concludes my guide on how to find Philomeen’s hiding spot in Baldur’s Gate 3. Now that you have the Runepowder Vial, you can go ahead and free True Soul Nere. Moreover, if you want, you can also cut off his head to complete another quest. For more tips and tactics, visit our BG3 guides hub.
