Balduran’s Giantslayer, a Legendary Greatsword, hides behind a set of puzzles in Act 3. It’s easy enough to miss, and you may not find it during your first playthrough if you aren’t specifically searching for it. To help you get your hands on this great weapon, here’s how to get Balduran’s Giantslayer in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get Balduran’s Giantslayer in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Balduran’s Giantslayer gives you double the damage from your Strength Modifier on a hit and Advantage against Large, Huge, and Gargantuan Creatures.
How to Enter the Wyrmway
First, go to Wyrm’s Rock Fortress and head down to the prison. Turn left from the entrance and head to the end of the hall where you find two Dragon Head Torches. Extinguish these torches, then hit them with Lightning and relight them. This opens a secret passage. Follow the passage and enter the Wyrmway, then continue and lockpick the locked door at the end next to a statue of Balduran. From here, you need to solve the puzzle in each chamber.
How to Solve the Chamber of Courage
The Chamber of Courage makes you withstand four turns of combat, which isn’t bad if you have AoE spells to work with since new enemies spawn with each turn.
How to Solve the Chamber of Justice
The Chamber of Justice needs you to use Remove Curse on the Judge. Once done, place the painting named The Cell into the empty niche. Basically, you decide the punishment for the man in the murals that tell a story around the wall and there are three options.
How to Solve the Chamber of Strategy
The Chamber of Strategy wants you to defeat the Black King in two moves. The puzzle is randomized, so I can’t give you an answer that will work for every game. I can give you a hint, though: use Lightning Damage to destroy the Black King. If you don’t succeed in three tries, you’ll enter combat.
How to Solve the Chamber of Insight
In the Chamber of Insight, you need to catch flying books to find which figure on the altar is threatening the city’s peace. This can be annoying, but if you don’t want to read and just want the answer: it’s Suelto.
After completing the trials, the formerly locked door is open and you enter the Dragon’s Sanctum. You can tell the statue there that you’re worthy and enter the last area where Ansur’s corpse lies. Interact with the corpse to trigger a cutscene where Ansur revives, leading to a fight against him.
And that’s how you get Balduran’s Giantslayer in Baldur’s Gate 3. As a bonus, you work towards Wyll’s companion quest and get a big lore drop about the Emperor. From here, head to our BG3 guide hub for content like all Legendary Weapons and how to get them or the top 10 Finesse Weapons ranked.
