Act 3 hides plenty of nice items in vaults, but reaching said vaults poses varying levels of difficulty. Since the Lower City lets you tackle quests in whatever order you see fit, you can grab several nice items early on. So, here’s how to get Foebreaker in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get Foebreaker in Baldur’s Gate 3
Foebreaker lets its wielder ignore Bludgeoning Resistance, meaning its damage won’t be reduced.
Enter Sorcerous Sundries
Your first task to get Foebreaker lines up with Gale’s companion quest: visit Sorcerous Sundries. Talk to Tolna Tome-Monger, ask her about Karsus, and convince her to tell you more about the Crown of Karsus. Make sure you whisper to her, and she’ll tell you that books with the information you want are locked in vaults. However, there’s a key to those vaults in her room on the second floor.
Sneak into the Vaults
Lockpick her door to get in. It’s the door on the far left next to the white portal. The Sorcerous Sundries Basement Key sits on the desk in the room. Take it, then interact with the Curious-Looking Book on the bookshelf to open a portal. Hop through, but you probably have to deal with the Sentry first with a few Skill Checks to avoid a fight. Breaking and entering Tolna’s room is something he’s supposed to prevent, after all.
Ungroup and control Astarion — or somebody good at disarming traps — and scope out the rooms. Traps fill these rooms, so you’ll end up tripping them if you aren’t careful. To get Foebreaker, enter the Karsus room. Then, use See Invisibility or Volo’s Ersatz Eye to reveal a chest that contains the maul.
And that’s how to get Foebreaker in Baldur’s Gate 3. While in the vaults, you’ll also find the last piece needed to read the rest of Necromancy of Thay and the book about Karsus that Gale wants.
