Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get the Infernal Robe

How to get the Infernal Robe in Baldur's Gate 3!

The Infernal Robe is a rare reward for doing something (objectively) terrible. But if you’re after Fire Resistance, it’s one of the better pieces of clothing that you can get. You’ll just have to live with yourself afterward. Here, I’ll tell you how to get it in Baldur’s Gate 3

Where is the Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3?

You can get the Infernal robe by completing the Blad of the Frontiers mission. Unfortunately, you may have to do something you don’t want to: kill Karlach. Because she’s so popular, many players skip it to keep Karlach alive. Naturally, Mizora punishes Wyll for not abiding by the rules. There’s no other way.

How to Get the Blade of Frontiers and Find Karlach

First, recruit Wyll. He tells you about Karlach and how he needs to kill her. Find Karlach and attack her instead of speaking with her. Her location is circled in the image below. It’s northwest or Emerald Grove Environs, and directly west of Emerald Grove.

Fighting her is simple since it’s so early on, and it’s possible your barrage of attacks will keep her from attacking at all. However, even if she attacks, Karlach can’t take on your whole party, no matter how strong our favorite fiery teddy bear is.

Report Back to Wyll

If he isn’t with you, tell Wyll that Karlach’s dead to update his personal quest in your Journal. Add him to your party to trigger a cutscene where Mizora gives him the Infernal Robe. Remember, this decision means that Karlach is no longer available as a companion in your game. I’ve personally skipped this quest each time (except one for this guide) because I find Karlach to be more useful than the Infernal Robe.

Can You Get the Infernal Robe Without Killing Karlach?

In short: no, you can’t get the Infernal Robe without killing Karlach. There used to be a loophole where you could resurrect Karlach after Wyll received the Robe. The quest would still be logged as complete because Karlach did die — she just didn’t stay dead. However, Patch 5 removed this loophole. If you resurrect Karlach, Wyll will either not receive the robe, or he’ll be punished retroactively if he did receive it.

And that covers how to get the Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s unfortunate that the workaround wasn’t left in the game by Larian Studio because Karlach deserves to live, and we deserve that robe from dealing with Mizora.
