The Thorm Mausoleum is the only way to enter Shar’s Sanctum and eventually the Gauntlet of Shar to deal with Nightsong. Your way is blocked by a door puzzle where you need to interact with three paintings in the correct order. Here’s my Baldur’s Gate 3 Mausoleum Walkthrough.
Thorm Mausoleum Walkthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3
Once you enter the Thorm Mausoleum north of the House of Healing, the puzzle door to Shar’s Sanctum is in the northernmost part of the chamber. To open the door to Shar’s Sanctum, you need to interact with three buttons below specific paintings in a precise order while avoiding stepping on traps. In case you want to solve the puzzle yourself, there’s a clue in the Stained Book on a desk in the east room.
Spoiler alert. If you want the exact solution, the correct order is below:
- First, the Moonrise Tower Painting.
- Painting with Ketheric grieving (to the left of the Moonrise Tower painting).
- Northernmost painting where Ketheric is a general.
This solves the puzzle and opens the door to Shar’s Sanctum. I highly recommend splitting your party and only using one character to solve the puzzle and move around so as not to trigger any traps. You can disarm them, but this isn’t necessary, as you can just jump over them. These are all the harmful traps you need to avoid in the room:
The rest are harmless vents that activate to fill the room with fog if you get the combination wrong, so you don’t have to worry about them.
Mausoleum Step-by-Step Guide in Baldur’s Gate 3
Before you enter into Shar’s Sanctum, I have some tips for the Thorm Mausoleum:
- I would suggest bringing Shadowheart and Astarion to this adventure. Astarion gets a Companion quest update with Raphael in front of the Mausoleum. Furthermore, Shadowheart can reveal extra bits of lore here.
- If you’re a Necromancer Wizard or any other class with Animate Dead, you can summon undead minions in the Mausoleum without needing corpses.
- There’s a dirt mound to dig up for some loot in the north part of the eastern room where the Stained Book is.
- You can find the Vivacious Cloak in the same eastern room which gives you 7 temporary HP for casting spells in melee. This is a great cloak for casters who tend to find themselves in melee like Clerics, Paladins, or Eldritch Knight Fighters.
- You get an inspiration point if you have a Sage background character when you solve the door puzzle.
That’s it for my Baldur’s Gate 3 Mausoleum walkthrough. For more Baldur’s Gate 3 guides, check out my best Shadowheart build as well as should you go to Shadowfell or Moonrise Tower first.
