When you finally face the Netherbrain, the source of the Absolute, you have a series of increasingly difficult Skill Checks. The first few are manageable depending on the number you roll and your modifiers. But then you have one that seems impossible. So, what happens if you pass the 99 DC Skill Check in Baldur’s Gate 3?
What Happens if You Pass the 99 DC Skill Check in Baldur’s Gate 3?
No amount of modifiers can get you to 99 DC, and that means the only way you can pass this Skill Check is by rolling a 20.
Which Ability Should You Roll for 99 DC Skill Check?
For this Skill Check, you can pick any ability to roll. The dialogue has in brackets which ability each option uses, which is nice because they all say the same thing otherwise. It seems like if you pass this check with a Critical Success by rolling a 20, that you might be able to beat the game without giving into the brain or fighting it. However, you’ll need to battle the Netherbrain even if you pass all four Skill Checks.
The 99 DC Skill Check Reward
That doesn’t mean there’s not a reward for passing a Skill Check that’s almost impossible. Aside from earning an achievement for beating the odds, the Netherbrain will have 10% less health when you fight it. Depending on the difficulty you’re playing on, that could be a huge bonus. Although, it’s a bit disappointing that there’s not a bigger reward if you pass all four checks, not just the 99 DC one.
But that’s what happens if you pass the 99 DC Skill Check in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a neat addition for players who get lucky enough to roll a 20, although more could’ve been added for passing the full sequence.
