Larian’s grand CRPG has countless areas to explore, many with rewards at the end, should you make it through the trials that await. With that in mind, you should take some time to find the Emperor’s Old Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3. This entity who’s been guiding you on your journey claims that he’s left rewards in that location. Unfortunately, it’s not just goodies that await you there.
Where to Find the Emperor’s Old Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3
The quest to Find the Emperor’s Old Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3 starts during the game’s third act. You need to reach the Lower City and enter the Elfsong Tavern. It’s fairly close to the Basilisk Gate waypoint, but actually discovering it can be a task if you don’t know where to look or what to expect.
The Cellar Rats and Hidden Door
Once inside the Elfsong Tavern, make your way to the kitchen and head down the stairs. Down below, you’ll see a cellar that’s infested with dozens of rats. They don’t have a lot of HP, but they sure are numerous.
Thankfully, you can use the environment to your advantage. In my case, I a single Fire Bolt spell on the wine spilled on the floor, which was enough to case flames to erupt, killing almost all of the vermin.
Next, check the small side room and look for a button on the wall. This causes one of the barrels to move, revealing a hidden chamber.
How to Beat the Githyanki Attackers
Before you can enter the Emperor’s Old Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to eliminate the Githyanki ransacking the place. I must warn you that these opponents are tough. Some of them have Monk abilities, while others use psychic spells like Mindsteal Link.
I mostly cast AoE spells, such as Cloudkill and Ice Storm. Likewise, I unlocked a high-tier Illithid Power, Black Hole, which allowed my character to spawn a singularity that pulled most enemy mobs closer to each other. This certainly made quick work of the hostiles since they were clustered together.
Emperor’s Old Hideout Loot
After the battle, head to the statue at the back of the chamber and pass a Perception check to reveal a button. Inside, you’ll discover several items. The Emperor will also remark as to what some of those meant to him ages ago.
Your rewards include the Cerebral Citadel Armor and Cerebral Citadel Gloves, which have effects related to the charm and frighten status. Moreover, you can pick up the Sword of the Emperor. It deals extra damage against shapeshifters and polymorphed creatures, and it also grants a +2 bonus to saving throws against spells.
That’s all you need to know about where to find the Emperor’s Old Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you do a bit of searching, you might even notice a path that leads to the Lower City Sewers, which is a major dungeon for the game’s third act.
