Baldur’s Gate 3: Where is the Owlbear Egg?

An Owlbear Egg fetches a pretty penny in Baldur's Gate 3: 750 gold, to be exact. Here's where to find one, and where it is in your inventory.

A cave between the Emerald Grove and Blighted Village give you two option: interact with or fight a massive Owlbear. Should you fight it, you’ll be rewarded with a deep sense of guilt (it is protecting its hatchling, after all) and an Owlbear Egg worth 750 gold. The item is found in a nest near where the beast first stood. However, you may find yourself as perplexed as I was about where it is in your inventory. Here’s where to find the Owlbear Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3 once you have it.

Where is the Owlbear Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3?

  • Enter a cave just east of the Blighted Village to encounter the Owlbear.
  • Your encounter with the Owlbear will be different if one of your characters can speak to animals.
    • If you don’t kill the cub, you can save it from the Goblin Camp. You can then recruit it to rest at your camp.
  • Once the deed is done, the question is: Where is the Owlbear Egg in your inventory?

If you want the coin from selling the item but don’t have it, go to the spot on the map below. It’s just east of the Blighted Village. The cave entrance is down a slope and quite large — indicating that the creature inside is quite large! And it is; the Owlbear is a formidable beast.

The Owlbear is Level 3 and has 91 HP. You might want to rest before interacting with it at all. You can have some interactions with it, but if you approach after the fact, then the Owlbear will initiate combat. During the fight against the Owlbear, you might want to avoid killing the cub so you can recruit it as a camp companion later on. Or don’t; it’s your playthrough!

Your companions may comment that you could find an egg before you fought the beast, or perhaps after. There is indeed an Owlbear Egg for you to pick up in a nest around where the adult was patrolling. And this brings us to the reason I wrote this guide: Where is that Egg in your inventory?

Where to Find the Owlbear Egg in Your Inventory

This really bothered me when I finally got the egg. I didn’t particularly want to kill the Owlbear in the first place. It’s a situation where my greed got the best of me. You’re probably also wondering where it is, since it’s very clearly not found in your standard inventory.

The Owlbear Egg is in your Camp Supply Sack. Select your Camp Supply Sack and then choose “Open” to browse its contents. The Owlbear Egg will be in there, safe and sound. You might not want it in there too long, though. Don’t forget about the gold it can bring to your party. 750 gold is nothing to sneeze at!

With that, you now know where the Owlbear Egg is in Baldur’s Gate 3, both location-wise and where it’s stashed in your inventory. You may have to seek out a vendor who actually has that amount of gold on hand, but that shouldn’t be too much trouble.
