Astarion loves gear that gives him additional movement and defensive options as well as new ways to deal high damage. I’ll focus on trinkets and armor pieces while providing the best weapon options for a melee and ranged build. Here’s my best gear for Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Best Astarion Gear in Baldur’s Gate 3
Disintegrating Night Walkers
This is one of the best boot options for Astarion for two reasons. First, it makes you immune to almost all movement-hampering effects in BG3. Second, you get a free Misty Step once per Short Rest to reach elevated platforms or get closer to key enemies. I looted it from Nere in Grymforge and kept it on Astarion ever since.
Bhaalist Armor or Elegant Studded Leather
Melee Astarion builds love Bhaalist Armor because it gives enemies near him Vulnerability to Piercing damage for your daggers. This means they take double damage from dagger or shortsword attacks including Sneak Attack. On the other hand, ranged Astarions will love Elegant Studded Leather as it’s the highest AC value you can get with light armor.
I bought Bhaalist Armor from Echo of Abazigal after accepting Bhaal at the Murder Tribunal. For Elegant Studded Leather look for the High Security Vault 9 in the Counting House.
Darkfire Shortbow or Hellfire Hand Crossbow
I love the DF Shortbow because Astarion is proficient with Shortbows as a Rogue and it can grant you the Haste spell. This means more attacks, more movement, and better AC. That said, if you’re going Thief Astarion, the Hellfire Hand Crossbow dual-wielded with another Hand Crossbow is superior since you can attack twice with your two Bonus Action.
Grab the Sharpshooter feat with the latter and you’re outputting incredible DPS. I bought DFS from Dammon in Baldur’s Gate and you can get Hellfire Hand Crossbow as a drop from Yurgir in the Gauntlet of Shar.
Bloodthirst and Stillmaker
For melee Astarions, I love the Bloodthirst and Stillmaker combo. Bloodthirst is self-explanatory as it’s the most powerful dagger in the game. It gives you bonuses to attack and damage, more frequent crits, Vulnerability on attacks, and much more. I love Stillmaker in the offhand for the Level 3 Hold Person which I cast before a fight to trigger surprise. Then you can go in and auto-crit affected enemies. Bloodthirst is a drop from Orin the Red and you can get Stillmaker by solving the Open Hand Murders quest.
Risky Ring and Killer’s Sweetheart
This ring combo is quite powerful. The Risky Ring gives you Advantage on all attack rolls which means automatic Sneak Attacks at the cost of Disadnvatage on all saves. The benefit far outweighs the downside for Rogues who are glass cannons anyway though I recommend it more on ranged Astarions.
Furthermore, the Killer’s Sweetheart ring allows you to automatically crit after you have killed one enemy so that you can line up powerful Sneak Attacks. I bought the Risky Ring from Araj Oblodra at Moonrise and the Killer’s Sweetheart is your reward for the Self Same trial in the Gauntlet of Shar.
Great Miscellaneous Astarion Gear
To finish off, here are my recommendations for the leftover gear slots on Astarion:
- Mask of Soul Perception (Helmet): Gives you +2 to attack rolls, initiative rolls, and Perception so that you can land Sneak Attack more reliably. Buy it from the Devil’s Fee.
- Cloak of Displacement (Cloak): All attacks against you have Disadvantage until you get hit. Then it resets at the start of your turn. Buy it from Danthelon at Danthelon’s Dancing Axe in Wyrm’s Crossing.
- Gloves of the Balanced Hands (Gloves): This is a must-have item for Thief Astarion that adds your Dexterity to off-hand Bonus Action attacks while dual-wielding. Buy it from Talli at the Last Light Inn in Act 2.
That’s it for my best gear for Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3. For more Baldur’s Gate 3 guides, check out my Rogue/Ranger multiclass build and best rings in BG3.
