This made the whole experience much more rewarding, even though I was also hoping to find a desert temple next to the mangrove swamp.

If you don’t mind digging under the water, then you can also enter the trial chamber right under the ocean monument at coordinates X: -329 Y: -14 Z: 105. Just be sure to craft lots of underwater breathing potions, as this may take some time.
