There can be hundreds of Minecraft mods added each month in addition to pre-existing ones receiving an update. While some might be renditions of more popular ideas or made with niche audiences in mind, there are plenty of mods that can appeal to the masses. Here is my ranking of the best new Minecraft mods for February 2024.
What are the 10 Best New Minecraft Mods for February 2024?
10. Cat Loaf
First on the list and one that anybody with a feline pet can relate to is Cat Loaf. This mod adds a new sitting position for your cats that will have them lay low to the ground like an adorable loaf of bread. This is undoubtedly the cutest mod I’ve ever downloaded and I will be using it as much as I can.
9. Iron Ladders
Iron Ladders is a nice mod to have if you’ve ever wanted to climb faster or wanted some visual variety with the helpful block. Taking inspiration from armor, you’ll be able to craft new ladders based on Iron or Diamond for example. Those made from a higher tier can also be climbed faster.
It certainly is a bit silly, but it’s quickly become a favorite of mine. Having new designs for ladders is great and the faster speeds of each is incredibly convenient. Everything can be easily configured too in case you’re like me and want the quickest speed from a Gold ladder. Iron Ladders has helped me a lot while playing through some of the mods from my list of the Top 10 Zombie Apocalypse Mods for February.
8. Ariadne’s Thread
With the procedurally generated nature of Minecraft, caves can easily become hectic enough to get lost in. Ariadne’s Thread aims to fix that by adding the eponymous item for players to craft. It routinely creates markers for your position and will then display lines connecting them. This “thread” is visible over blocks and uses different colors to differentiate the beginning and end.
I’ve found it to be a new must-have mod. It’s made caves and even complicated dungeons from other mods I’ve downloaded a whole lot easier to traverse. The default settings have worked just fine for me, although there are a lot of configurable options to adjust it to player preferences.
7. Happy Go Lucky – Random Teleportation
Sometimes the most fun mods are the random ones, which is the category Happy Go Lucky – Random Teleportation falls into. Every five minutes it will teleport every player to a random location. While I wouldn’t recommend adding this to all of your worlds, it does make for a fun challenge. I got some laughs playing it solo and I can only imagine how much more enjoyable it would be with more players.
I do suggest using it along with any world map mods as the creator mentions. They recommend Xaero’s World Map, but I’d go a step further and try out Xaero’s Minimap as well. The latter was a part of our list of the Best Minecraft Mods of 2023 and only makes it easier to understand your surroundings.
6. Tierify
If you’ve wanted to see some changes for the Tiered or TieredZ mods, Tierify might be the answer. It’s a fork from those and follows the same principles – every tool/armor/weapon built gains a random modifier. Tierify renames the “Unique” quality to “Mythic” and expands reforging into three categories which require three new ores.
I don’t mind when things are simple, but I do enjoy some extra challenges here and there too. The additional ores and their locations within each of the different dimensions make reforging feel more earned to me. Separating them like this has also narrowed down what kind of quality I might end up with, which is a great improvement.
5. Medieval Buildings [End Edition]
Medieval Buildings [End Edition] adds some fun new structures with a vanilla-style. The creators previously made a similarly titled mod I enjoyed that added medieval-era structures to the Overworld. What’s different here, as the name suggests, is that these new buildings are only within the End. They’re filled with traps and dangerous mobs alike, but I always find the trek worth it to find their treasures.
4. Ascension Megamons (Cobblemon)
One of the best Minecraft mods to come out in February is an update to an existing one. Ascension Megamons is an add-on to the wildly popular and Pokemon-based Cobblemon mod. While other add-ons have introduced Legendary Pokemon in Cobblemon, this one brings in Mega Evolution forms.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well Ascension Megamons meshed with the primary mod. All of the currently available Mega Evolutions look faithful to their original designs as well as the Cobblemon art style. I’ve also enjoyed how their implementation and extra content such as Mega Stone Ore fit perfectly with Minecraft gameplay. The creators plan to update this with the remaining Mega Evolution forms, so I recommend keeping an eye on this.
3. Respawning Structures
Some of the most exciting moments in Minecraft, such as clearing a dungeon, can feel fleeting if you can’t experience them again. Respawning Structures makes a good promise with its name and gives various buildings the ability to respawn.
The most common way I’ve used this is with dungeons. After I battle my way through and clear them, I can return later and do it all over again. The layout will be the same, but any dangerous mobs inside will have a chance to gain armor or effects. I’ve also noticed that it works on any empty villages as well. This is a mod I’ll likely keep due to the extra challenge and sense of things changing in the world.
2. Diagonal Walls
Next is Diagonal Walls, which some may recognize from the creators of similar mods for fences and glass panes. This allows you to spruce up your building by placing walls diagonally instead of being limited to the cardinal directions.
After being used to the typical restrictions for so long, Diagonal Walls might be one of the most liberating mods I’ve used in Minecraft. Even if it’s just a small wall to hold my animals, it stands out immediately when they’re not built on the same axis as everything else. It’s helped some builds look better and allowed me to be even more creative.
1. Cut Through
The last mod on this list is Cut Through. I’m putting it in the number one spot because it fixed an annoying situation I’ve come across many times – fighting in tall grass. Instead of having to swing and break down multiple nearly transparent blocks in front of me before I can smack an annoying Skeleton, I can just run and swing with no worries. The blocks don’t detect any collisions and every hit will land solely on my target. It’s a simple fix that’s become a huge game-changer for me.
