The second phase of Apocalypse Shadow arrived shortly after Honkai: Star Rail update 2.4. Titled Dominated Evils, it was, for me, a much more challenging set of fights. Getting the full 12 Stars across the four stages will test your builds, so knowing the best teams to take on Dominated Evils will help get all those rewards.
The Best Teams to Beat Apocalypse Shadow Dominated Evils in Honkai: Star Rail
If you were expecting a massive change-up to the best teams for Apocalypse Shadow with Dominated Evils, I’m sorry to disappoint. The mode remains firmly steeped in the Weakness Break meta, but because Yunli is the featured 5-star at the start of 2.4, follow-up attacks (FUA) are also valuable.
I’ll admit, the level four stage was much, much harder this time around, as I was forced to use my Firefly team for the second portion. The first part of the activity against the Soulhook Sovereign (a Kafka variant) relied on a scuffed FUA team that I’ve never really invested in. My Acheron setup, despite its solid damage, was hamstrung by the massive damage resistance Soulhook has and needing to focus her summons first. As such, I’ll discuss the teams that carried me to 12 stars first, then go into more effective setups for the first phase.
Best Teams to Beat Soulhook Sovereign in Honkai: Star Rail
The ideal setup for Soulhook Sovereign is a follow-up attack team that can deal both Fire and Physical damage to deal with the summon weaknesses, then your main DPS can wail away on the boss. Whenever a summon dies, it will impart one of its main weaknesses to both the boss and the other summon, as well as deal massive Toughness damage to Soulhook Sovereign. The teams you want, then, are as follows.
#1 Team to Beat Soulhook Sovereign
- DPS: Yunli, Boothill, or Topaz
- Alt-DPS: Topaz or March 7th (Hunt) if Topaz is main DPS
- Support 2: Robin
- Sustain: Aventurine
This team can benefit from the FUA buff you can select before starting the fight and it does solid damage on top of its synergy with the current Apocalypse Shadow enemy setup. Depending on who your main DPS is, Hunt March 7th can act as a secondary Weakness Breaker or supplementary DPS.
#2 Team to Beat Soulhook Sovereign
- DPS: Firefly
- Support 1: Harmony Trailblazer
- Support 2: Ruan Mei
- Sustain: Gallagher
The Firefly team remains probably the best overall setup you can run in Apocalypse Shadow, regardless of side. While Super Break damage doesn’t directly bypass Soulhook Sovereign’s damage resistance, it does do more damage per attack to her than even my Acheron could hope to.
The Team I Used to Beat Soulhook Sovereign
- DPS: Dr. Ratio
- Alt-DPS: March 7th (Hunt)
- Support 2: Silver Wolf
- Sustain: Aventurine
Yeah, I know. Not ideal. Using this team relied on Imaginary damage, and I had to play in a very specific way to eke out enough points for the three stars. So long as I could apply Imaginary weakness, I was golden. If you have much better built Dr. Ratio and March 7th (Hunt) than I do, I imagine you’ll have an easier time.
Best Teams to Beat Starbane Doombringer
This massively buffed version of the Doomsday Beast weekly boss is tricky because he can stun your characters if they don’t remove a debuff by attacking a specific hand. Every time the Starbane Doombringer Core acts, it applies either Quantum or Imaginary resonance on a character. They then need to attack whichever of the boss’ hands has the same resonance to not only clear the effect but deal additional Toughness damage to that hand.
The boss’ right hand is weak to Physical and Ice, and the left hand is Physical and Wind. You can only deal meaningful damage to the boss by destroying both hands as well as the core, stunning the main body and making it vulnerable. If you allow any part to take another turn once broken, it’ll regenerate, and the whole process starts again.
#1 Best Team to Beat Starbane Doombringer
- DPS: Firefly
- Alt-DPS: Harmony Trailblazer
- Support: Ruan Mei (or Break-focused Hunt March 7th if you don’t have Ruan Mei)
- Sustain: Gallagher
Surprised by Firefly’s presence in both halves of Apocalypse Shadow? Don’t be. As long as Break Effect is a major part of the activity, she’ll remain a top-tier choice. Not only can she reduce the toughness of all three of the boss’ parts, but her damage is consistent regardless of what the bosses might be.
#2 Best Team to Beat Starbane Doombringer
- DPS: Acheron
- Alt-DPS: Black Swan
- Support 2: Silver Wolf or Pela
- Sustain: Aventurine
Acheron is a better pick for Starbane Doombringer thanks to the Skill Crit Damage buff available on this side as well as the elemental affinity providing an easier means of breaking the boss’ toughness. The Doombringer also doesn’t have nearly the damage resistance or health pool as Soulhook Sovereign, helping Acheron shine a bit brighter here.
#3 Best Team to Beat Starbane Doombringer
- DPS: Yunli or Boothill
- Alt-DPS: March 7th (Hunt)
- Support: Robin
- Sustain: Aventurine
I don’t know if there’s a team New March 7th can’t add value to, and the more FUA characters that appear (like, I don’t know, Feixiao), the more and more powerful she becomes. March enjoyers are living high right now. Between the two DPS options, here, though, I think you can make more of an argument for Boothill given Starbane’s lower overall resistances. Imagine having a cyborg space cowboy as your combat master, though. Sounds rough.
