Black Myth Wukong: Minotaur and War Carts Quest Walkthrough Guide

Completing the war carts quest in Black Myth: Wukong will unlock the fifth chapter's secret area.

Chapter five of Black Myth: Wukong puts you right in the midst of a war between the Bull King and his enemy. The identity of the enemy in question might be considered a spoiler, so much so that their weapons are part of this chapter’s largest hidden side quest. Unlike others, starting this quest is easy, but completing it can be challenging. Here’s our Minotaur and War Carts Quest Guide for Black Myth: Wukong.

To start this quest, you must have reached chapter five of the game. It’s easy enough to know if that’s the case: if you suddenly find yourself atop a flaming volcano surrounded by enemy forces, you’re in chapter five.

From here, you should be able to locate the minotaur, an NPC that initially mistakes you for an enemy. Once he calms down (by fighting you to exhaustion) he’ll give you some details about the war you conflict you just saw. More importantly, he talks about some elemental war carts that the opposing side is using. It seems like defeating those carts might be imperative to achieve victory, or so he seems to believe. Of course, this is just a side quest, but let’s humor the minotaur and destroy those carts.

You will find the first two elemental carts by following the main story like normal. As far as I could tell, fighting them is mandatory. In case you manage to avoid killing one of them, retrace your steps through the (linear) first portion of this chapter and you’ll soon find them. This should take care of the first two carts.

The next cart is also closely related to the main story, but it’s located a long way after the others. You will find this boss after defeating the Keeper of Flaming Mountains, in the throne room next to the Emerald Hall checkpoint. The Crimson-Silver cart will be waiting for you in a room above the stairs that lead you closer to the top of the mountain. Defeat this boss and you’ll be ready to meet the last cart.

The last cart is found before the Crimson-Silver cart, but it has to be defeated last. In reality, you don’t even defeat it. It’s already been destroyed, probably by falling into the volcano from atop the mountain. You’ll find it on the volcano’s floor, just above the lava. You’ll know you’re in the right area when you stop catching fire.

You don’t have to fight this last cart. Feeling that the other carts have been defeated will allow you to have its spirit. This will give you the Dark Thunder spell and unlock the next phase of the side quest.

To find the last cart, you have to go back to your minotaur friend. You need to talk to him multiple times if you haven’t already. Thankfully, the game keeps track of his location in the Warp menu of your checkpoint. Teleport to him and exhaust his dialogue to make him move again. Once he reaches Cooling Slope, his job is done.

At this point, teleporting to Cooling Slope will activate a cutscene in which the final war cart, the Rusty-Gold Cart, heavily injures the minotaur. You’ll immediately start fighting the cart, but it’s too late for the minotaur. He expends his last energies to open the gate in front of you two, allowing you to access the secret area of chapter five.

Moving deeper into this area will teleport you to the Bishui Cave as it was in the past. We assume this is what the secret areas represent, but it’s hard to say for sure.

In this secret area, you will fight two mandatory bosses. You will also find an optional boss, a staple of most secret areas in the game. The secret boss is the first one you can meet, but you can ignore it and move forward towards the first main boss: Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top.

This boss is a humanoid version of the giant steel ball that you “fought” in the main story. As it turns out, the ball is inhabited by two creatures, and you get to fight both at the same time. This boss isn’t particularly difficult, and regardless, it’s not mandatory. You can come back when you’re ready if you need to.

Keep moving forward and you’ll find the Golden-eyed Beast, the final boss of this secret area. Make sure to activate the checkpoint before this boss, and use the meditation spot while you’re at it. The Golden-eyed Beast poses much more of a challenge than the rotating sphere from before. Just like any other optional boss, you can come back when you’re stronger if it proves too much of a challenge.

Beating the Golden-eyed Beast will grant you plenty of goodies, from essential crafting materials to a useful Curio. The materials in question are used to craft Bishui Beast staff and the Bull King armor, although they won’t be enough alone. The fight against Top Takes Bottom will give you a celestial medicine and will open the way towards the Bull Governor spirit. Finally, there’s the Meditation spot, which like all others grants a skill point to invest however you like.
