Most people aren’t going to be drawn to Blade & Soul for the crafting, let’s be real. The game’s big draws are the graphics, combat, and PvP; but gathering and crafting are a big part of any player’s much-needed income at endgame.
Players can’t get started with gathering and crafting until they reach Jadestone Village around level 13. This is the first town where there are guild representatives for you to peruse and grab professions from.
If you’re not the type to dabble in professions in other MMORPGs, you might be happy to find that gathering and crafting is primarily an automated process. If you’re like me and like doing professions in MMOs, you may be disappointed. But Blade & Soul just isn’t that type of game, even if the money you make from professions is pretty much essential.
Which professions are available?
There are a total of 14 guilds you can join in Blade & Soul and you can be in two gathering guilds and two crafting guilds at a time.
First let’s take a look at the Jadestone Village map with each guild representative marked.
This can seem like a lot if you’re new to the game seems. Here’s a brief rundown of what’s available:
Gathering guilds
The materials you gather in these guilds are generally used by more than one crafting profession.
- Herbside Service (Herbs)
- Green Thumbs (Soil and grains)
- Prospector’s Union (Ore)
- Stonecutters (Stones)
- Tree Fellers (Logs and sap)
- Trapper’s Alliance (Meat and bones)
- Fish Network (Fish oils and shellfish)
Crafting guilds
Every crafting guild makes items used by other crafting guilds, making everything come full circle. Each crafting guild makes items needed for mid-to-endgame not mentioned here, rather these are just the basic items they craft.
- Earthseers (Charms)
- Forgekeepers (Weapons)
- Radiant Ring (Accessories)
- Soul Wardens (Soul Shields and Transformation Stones)
- Merry Potters (Bowls, refiners, and other items used by other crafts)
- Silver Cauldron (Potions)
- Acquired Taste (Food)
Which guilds should you join together?
You have to pick your profession guilds so you can gather the materials you need to craft. Otherwise, you’re going to have a tough time. Some guilds definitely go better with some than others and you’ll save yourself a great deal of time (and money) by grabbing particular profession combinations.
If you’re super lazy one way to get started is to pick a crafting guild you’re interested in and when joining, take a look at the gathering guilds the game recommends you take. Then look at the crafting guilds those gathering guilds recommend and make your choice.
Or, you know. Just take a look here:
Soul Wardens goes best with Tree Fellers and Trapper’s Alliance
Radiant Ring goes best with Stonecutters and Prospector’s Union
Merry Potters goes best with Tree Fellers and Green Thumbs
Acquired Taste goes best with Trapper’s Alliance and Green Thumbs
Silver Cauldron goes best with Herbside Service and Fish Network
Forgekeepers goes best with Stonecutters and Prospector’s Union
Earthseers goes best with Herbside Service and Fish Network
Some crafting and gathering guild combinations synergize better than others. For example, both Silver Cauldron and Earthseers need Herbside Service and Fish Network the most.
How do you gather and craft?
When you join a gathering guild the first time you are required to gather the lowest tier material right away in Jadestone Village. This is the only time you will be manually gathering that material.
Gathering and crafting in Blade & Soul doesn’t require much actual activity on the part of the player until later on when you get to a higher rank in your guilds and have to craft more complex items. And even then, the guild gathering is still a mostly automated process.
After you gather a material for the first time, you have other guild members gather and deliver them to you via the menu, which can take anywhere from 10 seconds to several hours depending on the item you’re trying to have gathered. You can be in two gathering guilds and two crafting guilds at a time.
Press the ‘L’ key to open your gathering and crafting menu to place an order for the first time. Each order costs money and awards Guild Points that go toward your rank within the guild. Click ‘Place Order’ and your item will arrive after a predetermined period of time.
This works the same with crafting guilds, though you need the materials to have your guild get busy making what you order.
You must always gather an item the first time before you can order it. Each gatherable material has at least one “Sample Location” under “Order Details” that tells you where you can gather that material the first time.
Quick and easy receiving and re-ordering
After your orders arrive, you can click the Orders icon at the bottom of the screen to quickly and easily receive the items you’ve ordered and order them again if you have the materials (for crafting).
If you want to order something else, you’ll have to head into the gathering and crafting menu with the ‘L’ key.
How to leave a guild
You may decide at least one of the guilds you’ve joined just isn’t for you. Leaving is easy. Just right click the guild tab you want to leave in the gathering and crafting menu, then click “Leave Guild”.
Be warned your Guild Rank will not be retained after you leave a guild. If you decide to take up a profession again later, you will be back to Rank 1.
There’s more to be said about gathering and crafting in Blade & Soul than what’s been said here.
There are secret crafting recipes you can farm for more valuable craftables and gathering items like water and quartz is still a manual activity like other MMORPGs. You don’t even have to stick 100% to guilds that mesh well with one another. But now you have the basics and know what to do and look out for if you want to get into gathering and crafting.
