Bound By Flame lets you upgrade your armor and weapons and craft helpful items as you progress through the game. The system is nice because you don’t have to do it in a town or at a specific place.
The materials needed are found on enemies, in the world, made from other materials, or even bought with gold right from the menu. This makes updating simple and I can keep the action going. The upgrades also make armor and weapon look different, so there’s an added bonus.
You do this even in combat, which does feel a little cheap, but it is very helpful. I’ll go over how to craft and upgrade and tips, depending on your play style.
This guide will cover everything about crafting and upgrading including:
- How To Craft and Upgrade – Where to go and how to do it.
- Gear Upgrades – What can be upgraded and suggestions based on play style.
- Item Crafting – What can be crafted.
- Feats – Helpful feats for crafting and upgrading.
How to Craft and Upgrade
Crafting and upgrading is simple. You only need to open your bag and go the appropriate section.
How to Upgrade Gear
- Open your menu and navigate to the Equipment section.
- Choose the piece of gear you want to upgrade, then press the “Craft” button shown on your screen.
- Select the slot you want to upgrade, then choose from the list given.
How to Craft Items
- Open your menu and navigate to the Bag section.
- Go to “Usable Items” if you want to make those, or “Components” if you want to make materials.
- Press the “Craft” button to see what you need for your choice and to make it.
Gear Upgrades
There are many upgrades to choose from in Bound By Flame. Swords, daggers, and crossbows are the weapons that you can upgrade.
You can upgrade all armor. Torso pieces have three upgrade slots. Gloves, boots, and helmets only have one.
You can also “recycle” gear. Recycling destroys the piece of gear and gives some materials back for crafting/upgrading.
The upgrades for armors are mostly the same, except for the third slot for torso pieces. Below is a list of each armor upgrade and what they do.
Upgrades
- Colossus – Gives max health upgrade.
- Warlock – Gives resistance to fire, interruption on a fire skill, or resistance to interruption.
- Emberknights – Gives resistance to poison, interruption resistance, or critical hit % for the Warrior’s Guard Break skill.
- Dragon – Gives resistance to ice, magic regeneration, chance to set enemies on fire with the Orb of Fire ability or weapon hits, or resistance to fire.
- War Mage – Resistance to dark magic, increases max magic, or resistance to poison.
- Titan – Increases max health, health regeneration, resistance to fire, or resistance to dark magic.
- Griffon – Increases physical resistance.
- Flaming Steel – Increases Orb of Fire Damage or resistance to ice.
- Sorceror – Increases resistance to ice.
- Charm of the Shaman – Increases max health.
- Chrysalid – Adds poison damage, interruption for Warrior only, or resistance to poison.
- Gunner’s Kit – Increases trap damage.
Upgrade Tips
Ranger Style
For those using dual wielding and the Ranger Skill tree, you want to help your fast paced combat.
- Increasing critical hit chance and damage from stealth helps a lot. This lets you get high damage in a short amount of time.
- Good because you dodge and move constantly, so this makes up for the lower attack.
- Overall physical damage is also good because you can’t stealth in most boss fights.
Warrior Style
When using two-handed weapons, you’ll block and parry often.
- Some armor upgrades add bonuses to warriors only. Take advantage of this.
- Health and interruption are great to have because you can’t dodge like dual-wielding can. You’ll want to have higher survivability and the chance to stop enemy attacks more often.
Pyromancer Style
When using the fire skills of a pyromancer, you want magic and resistances.
- Max magic and magic regeneration are great things to have.
- Magical resistances, especially ice, is high on the list as well. If you let the demon take over, you get a lower resistance to ice.
Item Crafting
There are several materials used to upgrade and craft consumable items. Most are found from enemies and around the world. You can also make them from other materials or gold.
- You can make Raw Metal, Bones, Leather, and Tainted Blood with gold. You can make the rest by combining other components.
You can craft explosive Traps, crossbow bolts, and health and mana potions as well.
Feats
There are feats that make crafting/upgrading easier.
- Lucky and Snooper give a higher chance of finding items on enemies.
- Craftsman and Master Craftsman gives a higher chance of recycling materials from gear.
- Manufacturer lowers the amount of ingredients needed to make other ingredients.
- Apothecary lowers the amount of ingredients needed to make potions.
- Soldier lowers the amount of ingredients needed to make crossbow bolts.
- Trapper lowers the amount of ingredients needed to make traps.
That’s everything on crafting and upgrading in Bound By Flame. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments.
