The latest installment of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been experiencing issues with its installation process. Many players report that during the first installation, the game sticks at the “installing shaders” step. This guide will give you a few tips on how to fix the “installing shaders” error.
But even if you manage to install the game, the bug can return and pop-up during gameplay, which can be fixed only when Activision releases an official fix to the problem.
Method 1: Restart Installation
Many players whose installation process got stuck at the “installing shaders” stage report that a simple restart of the installation helped.
Here’s how you can do it efficiently:
- Cancel the installation
- Go to Battle.net launcher
- Select Modern Warfare
- Click on Options tab
- Press Scan and Repair
- Install the game
This simple solution should help you go through the “installing shaders” step a second time. Hopefully, you won’t get stuck again.
Method 2: Lower Your Graphics Settings
If the dreaded message pops up during gameplay, you can simply reduce your graphics settings to “Low” or “Medium” for a time being. When Activision releases the actual fix, you can return to your desired settings.
If you don’t want to reduce your graphics settings, then you can follow these steps to turn off the message:
- Go to Campaign menu
- Press “I understand”
- Start a story mission
- Select Pause Installation
- Return to gameplay
This bit doesn’t solve the problem; instead, it simply postpones it. But at least you can keep your graphics settings intact. You will also be required to do this every time you play the game before the issue gets fixed by the developer.
