With the excitement that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is bringing, owners of some older consoles are wondering whether they’ll be able to play it on PS4 and Xbox One. The question here is whether Capcom will optimize their game for those old-gen consoles. So, keep reading and see what we discovered about whether you can play Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS4 and Xbox One.
Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Available on PS4 & Xbox One?
Massive modern game releases are moving toward current-gen consoles more and more, and Dragons Dogma 2 is no different. It’ll only be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC. Unfortunately, this means that on launch, the game won’t be available on previous-gen consoles like the PS4 and the Xbox One.
Furthermore, Capcom hasn’t announced any plans to release the game for PS4 and the Xbox One in the future either. Based on the engine and the graphics we saw from the trailers, I can only assume that this is because previous-gen hardware couldn’t run the game. So, can we expect backward compatibility in the future?
Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that backward compatibility will be a thing. Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more similar PS5 and Xbox Series X/S releases, as with Helldivers 2. Developers are slowly abandoning backward compatibility, which is a hard pill to swallow for those who enjoyed the original Dragon’s Dogma on PS4 and Xbox One.
The game is just visually and mechanically too vast for older hardware. Hopefully, Capcom’s decision not to release it on previous-gen consoles will be worth it, and the game will look as stunning as it’s been hyped up to be.
