With V Rising growing in popularity various players are looking to try the game out on Steam Deck. That said, is the game available on Valve’s handheld device and if so how are the controls and performance? Let’s talk about can you play V Rising on Steam Deck.
Is V Rising Playable on Steam Deck?
Valve has rated V Rising as “playable” on Steam Deck but I would suggest taking this with a grain of salt as the game doesn’t have native support. This means that you can play and run the game but you’ll have to tinker around with the options and experience some lesser bugs and UI trouble. Essentially, V Rising can be played on Steam Deck using both the keyboard and mouse as well as a controller but you will have to manually switch to the controller layout. This isn’t done automatically as of yet.
Therefore, there is controller support for those wondering, but I would go into the Steam Deck’s menu and then navigate to the control section. Under Current Button Layout, you should switch it manually to the controller layout so that the game displays your controller’s buttons properly in the UI.
As of yet, there is no native Steam Deck V Rising UI so you’re running the PC UI as you play. This, along with some minor bugs, can make the experience slightly awkward as you get used to playing your vampire on the Steam Deck, so I wouldn’t necessarily dive into a hardcore PVP server right away.
On the bright side, the game runs quite smoothly even if you tinker with the higher-end graphic settings. I’ve managed to get a steady frame rate and there were little to no hiccups on the performance end. Essentially, other than the controller layout and UI issues, V Rising is indeed playable on the Steam Deck. That said, hopefully, we’ll get some better optimizations and quality-of-life fixes to make the game completely native to Valve’s handheld device.
So can you play V Rising on Steam Deck? Yes, with a little tinkering for the controller UI layout. For more V Rising guides, check out my Necromancer build.
