Character Unlocks in Super Smash Bros Wii U

Unlocking all characters in Super Smash Bros Wii U
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

With the launch of Super Smash Bros Wii U edition, players will be looking to unlock all the fighters as quickly as possible. This short guide will tell you who you can unlock and how to get them.

Recommended Videos

First, there are characters unlocked at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, and 100 versus matches played. This includes online play, Smash Mode, 8-Player Smash, or Special Smash. Other than that, each character has certain requirements that have to be met prior to challenging them.

Falco

Falco will likely be the first challenger. He is unlocked one of two ways. The first option is ten versus matches; these matches will rack up quickly and will probably be the way to unlock him.

However, the other option is to beat Classic mode on any difficulty level. Either option will be easy enough.

Wario

In the event that players are going through with the versus mode option to unlock characters, Wario will be next in line. He’ll challenge you after twenty matches.

The other route to having Wario challenge you is to complete the one hundred man smash.

Lucina

She will challenge you after thirty matches, which may be the fast route.

Alternatively, she’ll unlock after you beat Classic mode (and Master Core) at a 5.5 difficulty rating or higher.

Dark Pit

This re-skinned option of Pit will challenge you after forty matches.

The other option is to beat All-Star mode on the Normal difficulty setting. (Again, unless you are well-prepared, it would seem the easier way is to go ahead and rack up the versus matches.)

Dr. Mario

This alter-ego character is available after fifty matches are racked up.

The faster route is to beat one Master Order on Hard difficulty with any character.

R.O.B

This robotic fighter will come into play after sixty rounds of fighting.

The other option (which may be difficult) is to beat Crazy Hand after completing 10 matches in Crazy Orders with any character.

Mr. Game and Watch

Mr. Game and Watch will approach you once you hit eighty matches.

The faster option is to beat Classic mode with five characters. This does not have to be set on any specific difficulty.

Duck Hunt

Duck Hunt seems like a joke of a character, but he will be available after one hundred matches.

Alternatively, you must knock out one fighter in cruel smash. Either way, this character will take some patience getting unlocked.

Keep in mind if you choose to do this legit or not, there is an easy way to get characters unlocked. If you want to take a sort of shortcut, you can set the stock match to one life and go against one computer. Then try to walk off the edge. That makes one match complete. Then all you do is rinse and repeat ninety-nine more times. But the game is fun, so you will likely unlock all the characters just by putting in time.
