How to Fix Instance Inventory is Idle Error in CoD MW3 DMZ

Ideally, I play a game smoothly and without faults. Unfortunately, the “instance inventory is idle” error has been interrupting my CoD DMZ sessions. I know I’m not the only one struggling with this, so let’s talk about how to fix it.

Check Activision Server Status

When in doubt, check the server status first. Taking a look at the servers will give you a heads-up if the game is undergoing any maintenance that could be causing the bug.

Check Modern Warfare 3 Trello Board

Sledgehammer Games has launched a public Trello board that tracks the known and resolved issues in the game.

Cycle through the Game Modes

An option that has worked for me, and others, is exiting and returning to the DMZ mode. For the best odds of it working, you’ll want to follow this exact order.

  • Exit DMZ to Main Menu.
  • Select Warzone.
  • Exit Warzone to Main Menu.
  • Select DMZ.
  • Enter match.

Enable Crossplay

Sometimes, a bug is hidden in a weird place like crossplay settings. Here’s how to enable crossplay.

  • Enter Warzone.
  • Head into Options.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Go to Network.
  • Enable Crossplay.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Game

Sometimes, it’s best to start from scratch. If you’re unable to fix the bug through workarounds, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Wait for the Fix

If all else fails, you’ll have to wait for Activision to fix the issue on their end. Rest assured, the developers are always working hard to stay on top of bugs in the live-service game.
