The Return to Castlevania DLC gives fans of the franchise a reason to jump back into Dead Cells. It’s not a resurrection of Castlevania per se, but its the closest thing to a new (non-mobile) game the series has seen in a while. You can even play as Richter Belmont in a special mode. In this walkthrough, we will guide you through the steps you need to take to unlock Richter Mode in the Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC.
How to Play Richter Mode in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania
Fans of classics like Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night are familiar with the whip wielding legend. To play as him in Dead Cells, you are first going to have to start the DLC and make it to the Dracula’s Castle biome. You will have to get through to the “real” castle, which is the third stage of the game locked behind completing the Death boss fight.
After defeating Death, you will be in the Clock Tower area of the Castle. Keep your eyes open for a large golden hourglass. This is the secret entrance to where Richter is being kept. Interact with the object to be transported to an flipped version of the room, where Richter is trapped in a large cage. You can break him free and continue on your run as per usual.
In the next run you take through this area, revisit the room where you first found Richter trapped. Interact with the cage this time to enter Richter Mode, where you can play as the iconic Castlevania character.
This mode plops you into a remixed Dracula’s Castle where you play as Richter. His moveset more closely resembles what a traditional Belmont would play like in a Castlevania. It’s not long, but if you can get through Richter mode and beat the boss at the end, the game will award you with Richter’s outfit for your troubles.
Those are all the steps to unlocking Richter Mode in the Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC. This is just one of many secrets to discover and outfits to unlock in this brand new Castlevania inspired expansion to a modern classic.
