Demon’s Souls Marrowstone is an upgrade path that works with daggers, knives, spears. There are many upgrade paths in Demon’s Souls, from Bladestone to Mercurystone, each with their own unique boons. Marrowstone increases the strength of critical strikes but lowers the overall damage of the weapon.
Getting your hands on the upgrade materials, Shards, Chunks, and Pure, isn’t easy, but in this guide, we’ll highlight where to find them, and we’ll showcase the best farming locations for Marrowstone throughout Demon’s Souls.
Marrowstone Upgrades
To start down the Marrowstone upgrade path, you’ll need to have an applicable weapon upgraded to at least +3. Marrowstone caps out at +5 and focuses on critical attacks.
Visit Blacksmith Ed in 2-1 to upgrade your standard weapons to special paths like Marrowstone.
Shard of Marrowstone
The most abundant of the group are the Shards of Marrowstone, which are found only from drops by the Giant Ticks in 5-1, Valley of Defilement or the Giant Mosquitos in 5-2.
For best results, wait until you’ve got a higher level character to make killing them easier.
How to Farm Shards of Marrowstone
The best way to farm Shards of Marrowstone is to run through 5-1 and kill the bulbous Giant Ticks, which are found a few floors beneath the starting point.
The drop rate isn’t amazing, but it’s certainly better than trying to get something like Pure Bladestone. Keep running through this area and jump off the edge to kill your character to try again.
If you’re going to farm the Giant Mosquitos in 5-2, remember to bring a long-range weapon like a bow or some sort of magic, as these enemies fly around above you. From our experience, the mosquitos have a slightly higher drop rate of Shards than the Giant Ticks.
Chunk of Marrowstone
As for Chunks of Marrowstone, you can find them in the exact same way as Shards: from the Giant Ticks in 5-1 or the Giant Mosquitos in 5-2. The drop rate is lower, of course, but you’ll likely come across a Chunk while farming for Shards.
How to Farm Chunks of Marrowstone
Run from 5-1 to the bottom portion of this section, where you’ll find a handful of Giant Ticks. Make sure you stay back as you attack them so you can avoid their poison and jump off the edge to try again. Repeat this process until you have the desired amount of material.
Pure Marrowstone
Luckily, there is a sure-fire way of getting Pure Marrowstone, and it’s found in the Plague Babies swamp at the bottom of 5-3, Dirty Colossus Archstone.
Make your way to the bottom, and you’ll find Pure Marrowstone on a corpse, along with Pure Murcurystone nearby. Try and be quick, as you’ll catch the plague if you stay in the swamp too long.
How to Farm Pure Marrowstone
In terms of farming Pure Mercurystone, you can find them the same way you gather Shards and Chunks: by killing the Giant Ticks in 5-1 or the Giant Mosquitos in 5-2.
Keep in mind, the drop rate is extremely low, so unless you have multiple weapons you want to upgrade down this path, you’ll only need one Pure Marrowstone, which you can get from 5-3.
Also, keep in mind, you can increase drop rates by having Black World Tendency.
That covers everything you’ll need to know about Demon’s Souls Marrowstone upgrade path. It’s a tougher upgrade path to utilize since you have to traverse the dangers of Valley of Defilement, but hopefully, this guide has helped you bag a few shards, chunks, and pure variants.
