Seasonal Challenges are one of the many progression paths in Destiny 2, but some of them are less than clear about what you need to do. That’s why this guide describes how to complete the Focused Intention challenge because the description leaves much to be desired.
How to Complete the Focused Intention Challenge in Destiny 2
The Focused Intention challenge says you need to defeat enemies with Primary ammo in ritual playlists to progress, specifically Hand Cannons, Bows, Pulse Rifles, and Auto Rifles. And while that seems to be true, it’s also misleading. To actually complete it, you need to defeat enemies with a weapon in your Kinetic Slot. In my testing, I found that it didn’t matter whether you were using a weapon that fired Special or Primary ammo.
My Fatebringer Hand Cannon and Heritage Shotgun both used Kinetic ammo, and both progressed the quest. Oddly, even though my Calus Mini-tool technically uses Primary ammo, because it’s in the Special slot, clearing entire rooms of enemies gave me no progress. This was true whether I played in Vanguard Ops, Gambit, or the Crucible.
What Activities Progress the Focused Intention Challenge?
As for progressing Focused Intention, the best way I could find was to do standard Vanguard Ops activities, not Nightfalls, Gambit, or PvP matches. A single Strike with decent enemy density got me 28% progress in about 10 minutes. A single Gambit match where I and my teammates got stomped netted me 15% — and I was prioritizing kills.
You do get 1% progress for every other player you defeat in PvP. So if you can get 25 kills in a single match, you’ll be done quickly. That’s especially the case if you can win Rumble matches quickly. However, if you’re like me and are trash in the Crucible, generic Strike playlist activities should be your go-to.
If I were to put a number on it, I’m fairly certain you need 500 defeats in PvE activities and 100 in PvP. That’s minus any bonuses you get for using the right weapons.
