Destiny: Crota’s End Raid Gear Guide

Check this guide out for all the info on every piece of raid gear in Crota's end in Destiny!
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Now that you know how to beat Crota’s End in Destiny (if not, check out my Crota’s End Raid guide) it is time to go over all the gear you can get. There is plenty of armor and weapons and in my opinion, they have better benefits than Vault of Glass gear did.

Recommended Videos

For one, every piece of armor gives you a useful perk in the raid. The weapons all have great perks and they allow you to do more damage to Hive majors, which is useful outside of the raid as well.

I’ll go over all the raid gear in Crota’s End and the benefits of each. My goal is to help you choose which gear you want to try for next.

This guide will cover everything about the gear in Crota’s End including:

  • Raid Armor – All the raid armor, what they do, and tips on which to use when wearing exotic armor.
  • Raid Weapons – All the raid weapons, what they do, and which to use when using an exotic weapon.

Raid Armor

Armor comes in 4 slots: Helmet, Chest, Gauntlets, and Leg. They look different for each class, but give the same raid perks. The common perks, such as Carry more ammo for Auto Rifles, are random.

Helmet
  • Moment of Power – Temporary increase to Weapon Damage while Oversoul’s Gaze is active.

Chest
  • Moment of Speed – Temporary increase to Reload Speed while Oversoul’s Gaze is active.
Gauntlets
  • Hive Striker – Killing a Hive with a critical hit has a chance to spawn an Orb of Light.
Leg
  • Swordbearer’s Touch – Temporary increase to Agility while carrying a sword of a Hive Swordbearer.

The gauntlets have the most use in and out of the raid. Anytime you kill a hive with a critical hit, you can spawn an orb. This can add up and give your team their supers faster.

The legs are only useful if you’re using the sword on Crota, you don’t really need it on the bridge. If you happen to have exotic leg armor, and looking to replace a piece fo raid gear, I’d try that first.

The helmet and chest are extremely useful if someone dies on Crota so that you can kill the oversoul quickly. People should not die often though, so either of these are good alternatives for exotic armor as well.

Raid Weapons

I’ve only seen weapons drop from Crota, but I don’t know if they can drop anywhere else. Primary weapons are only available in the hard mode version of Crota’s End, but it is not available until January. I’ll still list everything to prepare you for it.

All weapons from the raid have the Hive Disruptor perk. This makes the weapons do more damage to Hive Majors.

Primary Weapons
  • Oversoul Edict (Arc Pulse Rifle
    • Can be fired in full auto mode.
    • Projectiles overpenetrate through Hive Knight Wall of Darkness.

This gun will be fairly strong and you won’t have to worry about Knights putting up their shields. Just keep shooting through them.

  • Fang of Ir Yut (Arc Scout Rifle)
    • Radar stays active while aiming down the sights.

The stats on this gun seems pretty powerful, but the perk is nothing special. Still, it is an Arc Scout rifle, so could still be worth getting.

  • Abyss Defiant (Solar Auto Rifle)
    • Projectiles have a chance to disorient Hive Wizards.

This gun will be great. It has fast reload, fast rate of fire, decent impact for an auto rifle, solar damage, and a great perk.

  • Word of Crota (Void Hand Cannon)
    • Rapidly landing 3 precision hits returns one round to the magazine.
    • Causing damage with this weapon increases its stability.

One round may not seem like a lot, but the magazine size on this gun is 12. This gives you 5 extra bullets if you hit all precision shots. Having more ammo for Hand Cannons is huge.

It is also void and there aren’t many void primary weapons.

Special Weapons
  • Swordbreaker (Void Shotgun)
    • Kills with this weapon reduce the cooldown on grenade.
    • The last round in the magazine deals bonus damage.

Overall this doesn’t seem that great of a gun except for lowering the cooldown of your grenade. Still if you need that, and like shotguns, this gun does the job.

  • Light of the Abyss (Arc Fusion Rifle)
    • Kills with this weapon grant bonus damage for a short time.
    • This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip.

This is a great Arc Fusion Rifle. It charges up very fast and does more damage as you kill enemies. If you need a good fusion rifle, this is the one to get.

  • Black Hammer (Solar Sniper Rifle)
    • Rapidly landing 3 precision shots instantly refills the magazine.
    • Missing a shot has a chance to return ammo directly to the magazine.

This is an amazing Sniper rifle because of the perk to instantly refill your magazine. The magazine is only 3 though, so you can’t miss any precision shots.

Important Note: The White Nail perk does not work with the Hive Disruptor perk. If you have the Hive Disruptor perk, you won’t be able to instantly refill your magazine on Hive Majors. These are the enemies with yellow health bars, like Wizards and Knights.

It does work on Ogres because they are Ultras. I’m assuming bosses are Ultras as well, so it should still be worth getting the Hive Disruptor perk.

Heavy Weapons
  • Song of Ir Yut (Arc Machine Gun)
    • Kills with this weapon reduce the cooldown on grenade.
    • Projectiles overpenetrate through Hive Knight Wall of Darkness.

Good machine gun, especially for taking on Knights. Also, helps get your grenade back faster.

  • Hunger of Crota (Solar Rocket Launcher)
    • Shells fired from this weapon track their target.
    • Rockets create cluster bombs when they detonate.

A great rocket launcher. Not as good as Gjallerhorn, but it is close. it is also legendary, so you’ll be able to use your exotic slot for something else.

Weapon Selection

It all depends on what you’re doing, but I’ll give a general guide to selecting which guns to use.

If you can get either the Abyss Defiant or Word of Crota, I’d use that almost all the time.

If you have a new, maxed Gjallerhorn, I’d always go with that as your exotic weapon since its unbelievably strong.

If you need a sniper, Black Hammer all the way, otherwise, Light of the Abyss is an excellent choice.

If you run low on special ammo, use a new, maxed Icebreaker if you have it, with the Hunger of Crota as your Heavy Weapon.

That wraps up my guide to Crota’s End Raid Gear in Destiny. If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know in the comments. For help with getting through the raid, please visit my Crota’s End Raid Guide.
