Enshrouded is finally out and its sprawling open world is now officially available for multiplayer co-op in Early Access. Players are therefore wondering if they are able to create dedicated servers for co-op. So does Enshrouded have dedicated servers?
Are You Able to Play Enshrouded Using Dedicated Servers?
Keen Games has stated that Enshrouded does indeed support dedicated servers. They are partnered with GPortal allowing you to rent and create dedicated servers directly from within the game. It’s also possible to rent servers through other providers, though you’ll have to contact them separately in those cases.
When using a dedicated server, hosts will no longer have to be online all the time when their friends want to play the game. Enshrouded currently supports up to 16 players on a server, which may increase in the future. I highly recommend playing the game with friends as it’s designed to be enjoyed in co-op despite the ability to have a single-player experience.
How to Create a Dedicated Server in Enshrouded
Creating a dedicated server in Enshrouded involves installing it and setting it up in the game. Once you’ve purchased Enshrouded on Steam, you’ll also get the Enshrouded Dedicated Server tool in your Steam library. I suggest clicking on the “All” button at the top of the library and then check-marking Tools to be able to see it.
From here, Keen Games has prepared an official dedicated server FAQ and installation guide which I followed for my own server creation. Once you’re done, you’ll be able to check whether your server has started by finding it in the in-game server browser. Remember to check-mark “Show dedicated servers”.
Note that your character progress as in the save-game file isn’t stored on the dedicated server but instead only on clients. That said, the actual world progression is stored on the dedicated servers. Auto-saves are created every 5 minutes.
That concludes my guide on does Enshrouded have dedicated servers. For more Enshrouded tips, check out the system requirements and our article on Steam Deck support for the game.
