There are plenty of mysteries to be had in Elden Ring, many involving items that seemingly have no use now but become important later. Two such items are the Dectus Medallion left and right pieces. Together, they form a key to the Grand Lift of Dectus. But where do you find each half of the Dectus Medallion in the Lands Between?
Once you reach the northern area of Liurnia of the Lakes, you’ll find the Great Lift of Dectus. Unless you’ve found the locations of the left and right pieces of the Dectus Medallion, you can’t use the elevator. Indeed, you don’t have to take it to the Altus Plateau, but the other choice, the dangerous Ruin Strewn Precipice, can be deadly.
In this Elden Ring guide, we’ll tell you where to find the left and right pieces of the Dectus Medallion so you can get the elevator humming.
Where to Find Both Sides of the Dectus Medallion in Elden Ring
Dectus Medallion Left Location — Fort Haight
The left half of the Dectus Medallion is at Fort Haight, in the southeastern portion of Limgrave, southeast of the Minor Erdtree in the Mistwood. The road leading south from the Mistwood terminates at the fort if you follow it to the end. When you arrive in the area, look for an opening in the cliffs with wooden spike barriers and a green banner.
Go past the spike barriers, and defeat the enemies along the path. Move up the hill. Go right to reach an open area outside of the fort’s gate. Defeat more enemies here, then take the stairs leading into the fort itself.
Go through the gate, then left and up the stone stairs and another set of wooden stairs. At the top, turn right. Go up the tower in front of you. At the top, open the treasure chest for the left half of the Dectus Medallion.
Dectus Medallion Right Location — Fort Faroth
The right half of the Dectus Medallion can be found in Fort Faroth, which is in the eastern portion of Caelid, east of the Sellia Crystal Tunnel and east/southeast of Dragonbarrow West.
If you’re coming from the west, be wary of the dragons. You’ll have to go through them, but they shouldn’t attack you if you speed by on Torrent. Luckily, you won’t have to worry about Scarlet Rot beelining it for the fort.
Look for a smoldering wall full of bright embers, similar to the one you come across when first entering Caelid from the Smoldering Church. Behind that low wall, you’ll find Fort Faroth and a Site of Grace. Rest there, then take the stone steps to the left of the site into the bottom floor of the fort.
Be very careful of the enemies here. The bats and terrifying winged humanoids can stun and poison you, respectively, not to mention tear you to shreds. The best tactic is to bring items that cure poison and simply run past them.
Once you enter Fort Faroth, turn left and look toward the bat that drops down. Go behind it, then left past the wooden barrier/wall. You’ll enter a larger room with wooden beams connecting the floor and ceiling. At the back of the room, there will be a small set of stairs leading into an alcove with a ladder leading up.
Take the ladder up, and open the treasure chest at the top for the right piece of the Dectus Medallion.
How to Use the Dectus Medallion in Elden Ring
With both pieces of the Dectus Medallion in hand, return to the Great Lift of Dectus by fast traveling to the Grand Lift of Dectus Site of Grace. Go up the ramp toward the lift, and stop at the stone circle at the top. You should see a prompt asking you to “Hoist the Medallion.” Press Triangle on PlayStation and Y on Xbox.
A cutscene will play where you lift the halves of the Dectus Medallion as a single piece, activating the Great Lift. You’ll then be automatically transported to the Atlas Plateau. You don’t have to manually put the pieces together in your inventory or anything like that.
And that’s that on where to find the left and right pieces of the Dectus Medallion in Elden Ring. Now you have access to the Atlas Plateau, another vast area north of Liurnia of the Lakes.
