Elder Scrolls Blades Chests Guide — How To Farm Gold Chests Effectively

Tired of waiting three hours for useless silver chests? Our guide shows you how to game the system and discard them at will to only open gold chests!
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Now that the Elder Scrolls Blades can’t play bug is (mostly) fixed, we can finally get onto the freemium business of waiting for timers to count down so those loot chests will open!

Recommended Videos

As expected, not all chests are worth the wait time, and below we explain exactly which chests to open and from what jobs to get the best loot.

Note that as an early access release only available on a small subsection of mobile devices, this Elder Scrolls Blades chests guide is subject to change as updates arrive. We’ll work to keep it up to date, but if you see any outdated info please let us know in the comments!

Update 4/11: Silver chests now only take 1 hour to open, and both wood and elder chests have been added to the job board mystery rotation. Check out the updated list below.

Elder Scrolls Blades Chests Opening Guide

Now we start the waiting game…

Before we get into the right pattern to follow to avoid silver chests and get gold chests, keep in mind that chest loot scales with your level. In other words, its better to wait to open any chests until you’ve leveled up a bit if at all possible.

One other thing has to immediately be made very clear — do not, under any circumstances, buy the extra chest slots.

There is absolutely no benefit to spending gems to increase your chest inventory. In fact, it’s actively detrimental and a waste of resources — because no matter how many chests you can hold, you can only open one a a time, and critically you can only discard chests if your chest slots are full

That’s important because our chest opening strategy hinges entirely on keeping your chest inventory at full capacity at all times.

 No you would not!

Which Chests To Open And When

The one thing you need to know above all else is that silver chests are not your friend. There’s even a petition on the sub-Reddit right now to change the downvote button to a silver chest icon, so that ought to tell you how well received they are by the early access community so far.

The waiting period isn’t worth the rewards offered. Instead, you want to only open wood chests (which only have 5 second timers) or gold / elder chests, which give better rewards.

To get the best loot and avoid needless timers, you want to always keep your chest inventory at a full 10, preferably with a wooden chest normally in the 10th slot. That way, you can open it immediately with only a five second timer whenever you need to pick up a gold chest, or you can keep the wood chest on the 10th slot so you can discard useless silver chests as they are rewarded to you.

So how do you know what kind of chests are coming to make this strategy work?

Story quests directly show you what the rewards will be, while anything chosen on the jobs board (after re-building the smithy) will usually only show a “mystery box.”

Here’s the thing though — those “mystery” boxes actually follow a specific pattern discovered by Reddit user Anuiran (and bless you for it!). Here’s the specific pattern, which repeats after acquiring the 500th chest:
