Farming chests gives you more chances at traits for craft researching. This will give you an edge over other crafters, once you learn these traits and farm the necessary items to apply these traits during crafting. You can also break down the gear to level your crafts and get materials easily.

There is one location in particular within Khenarthi’s Roost that spawns three chests. These chests always spawn in the same spots, once you find them you can camp them. The island with the beached Maomer Ritual ship has three chest locations on the backside. You can see these locations in the image below.
A few things of note:
- Be at least level 3 or 4 for the chest farming location, as some of the enemies are in pairs.
- Make sure you’re at least out of your Soul-Shriven gear.
- Don’t open a chest while your pack is full. Sort it for space before unlocking. Otherwise you run the risk of someone taking the loot that you spent time unlocking the chest for.
- Carry excess lockpicks. It may be easy to unlock chests, but you never know when you might break a pick by mistake.
- It’s best to head to the location with an empty pack excluding the obvious lockpicks, and only loot and gear from enemies you kill along the way.
- The chest locations marked on the map are guaranteed spawn sites. I have also seen a few random spawn locations around the island, but maybe only once or twice..
- The respawn rate is approximately three to five minutes.
