Purchasers of the imperial edition of Elder Scrolls Online receive the Rings of Mara. In order to get this perk, two players have to make use of the Ritual of Mara.
In the game and over the web, the ritual is refered to as a marriage. Orc, Dark Elf, Argonian, it does not matter what race or gender your character is to the other. You can also have more than one partner.
Where can I find a Shrine of Mara?
The first part, other than chosing your partner, is to find a shrine of Mara. Locations for Shrines of Mara are easy to find from the starting zones for each alliance:
- Ebonheart Pact: Davon’s Watch (Stonefalls) and Mournhold (Deshaan)
- Daggerfall Covenant: Daggerfall (Glenumbra) and Wayrest (Stormhaven)
- Aldmeri Dominion: Vulkhel Guard (Auridon) and Elden Root (Grahtwood)
Shrines have icons on the map to make them easy to find once a player is in the correct city.
Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togethew today. Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam. And wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you fowevah and evah… So tweasuwe youw wove. – Impressive Clergyman (The Princess Bride)
What do I do?
Once you locate a shrine, one of the players needs to put their Ritual of Mara scroll into a quickslot. Open your inventory and hit ‘Q’. This will bring up the quickslot menu and you to put the scroll into a slot.
Exit out of inventory and target your partner.
Hit ‘Q’ once again to bring up the quickslot menu and choose the Ritual of Mara scroll. The other player will then be given the option to accept or reject the ritual.
Once a player has accepted the ritual, both characters will raise into the air and be surrounded by a glowing, gold light as the ritual binds the pair together. Each will receive a Ring of Mara with their partner’s name on the tool tip. This ring gives the wearer bonus experience while traveling in group with their partner.
I accepted another player’s ritual, but I still have my scroll.
Since only one person has to perform the ritual, the receiving player can choose to have a second partner or more. They can still use their scroll on another player and receive another bound ring to another player.
